Tottenham struck late to rescue a much needed point against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
It was a familiar story for Arne Slot’s side who looked shaky in defence and missed out on the chance to move back into the Premier League top four.
It took 19 minutes for the Reds to take the lead, with Dominik Szoboszlai producing another fantastic free-kick from distance. Guglielmo Vicario could’ve done better with his attempt to stop the set play but the plaudits will go to the Hungarian for his fourth direct free-kick goal of the season.
Tottenham threatened, mainly through Richarlison, and it was the Brazilian who was eventually able to find a way through, scoring in the 90th minute to send the Spurs fans into raptures.
With five minutes of added time, there wasn’t really enough time for either side to find a winner and the match somewhat petered out into a stalemate.
Liverpool will be frustrated to have thrown away what could’ve been a vital three points in the race for Champions League qualification, while Tottenham will be hoping their late equaliser is the catalyst when it comes to moving away from the bottom three.

Liverpool player ratings
Alisson: 68%
Was forced into more action than he would’ve liked, producing six saves across both halves to keep his side in the lead. There wasn’t much he could do about the Spurs equaliser, with his defence letting him down with some sloppy play.
Dominik Szoboszlai: 53%
So often a shining light for the Reds in a disappointing season, it was Szoboszlai that proved to be the man to step up once again. Had three shots (including his terrific free kick) and completed 74 passes, the highest total of any player on the pitch.
Joe Gomez: 57%
Far from a commanding performance at the centre of defence, with no tackles made, no ground duels won and only 40% of his aerial duels won. Lost track of Richarlison on a few occasions and was dragged out of position for the Brazilian’s goal. An afternoon to forget.
Virgil van Dijk: 67%
While van Dijk showed his visible frustration at the late Spurs goal, it wasn’t a bad performance from the Dutch centre back. He won 100% of his tackles, 100% of his ground duels and 80% of his aerial duels. Was also able to make five clearances in a game where he was the standout defender for the Reds.
Andy Robertson: 51%
A fairly average performance from the veteran left back, who wasn’t his usual marauding self down the Liverpool left. Defensively he was solid enough for the most part but it was his initial error that led to the Tottenham goal. Failed to really stake his claim to keep Milos Kerkez out of the team.
Ryan Gravenberch: 56%
Didn’t really stamp his mark on the game, with just 26 passes made and no real impact going forward. Produced a solid defensive display, making four interceptions and winning 67% of his tackles but he looks tired after being relied upon for much of the season.
Alexis Mac Allister: 53%
Another Liverpool player that looked off the pace, possibly due to tiredness after playing long spells this season. Made 38 passes and made two important clearances but didn’t really have an impact at either end of the pitch.
Jeremie Frimpong: 52%
Not as dangerous as his counterpart on the left hand side but he regularly had Spence on the back foot thanks to his direct running and pace. It remains to be determined if he’s best played at right back or higher up the pitch but he’s starting to find his feet in the league after a bad run of injuries.
Florian Wirtz: 55%
Replaced by Jones just after the hour mark, Wirtz didn’t have the full impact on the game that he would’ve liked. He showed some good moments though and had 12 touches inside the Spurs box, but he needs to show a more clinical edge in the final third for Liverpool to really benefit from his inclusion.
Rio Ngumoha: 64%
On a weekend where Max Dowman dominated the headlines, Liverpool’s own teenage sensation saw his stock rise immeasurably. A constant threat down the left hand side, he had three shots (one on target) and completed 100% of his take-ons before being replaced just after the hour mark.
Cody Gakpo: 48%
Three shots but only one on target as he played in a less-familiar striker role. Showed some good movement but only managed three touches in the Spurs box and completed just 10 passes. His place in the starting eleven has never looked more under threat with Ngumoha looking infinitely more dangerous off the left hand side.
Mo Salah: 59%
Came on with 25 minutes left and had three shots but none were on target. Looked dangerous on occasion but didn’t put the Spurs defence under enough pressure, failing to complete a take-on during his time on the pitch.
Hugo Ekitike: 56%
Two shots in 25 minutes after coming on, but none on target. Had a decent chance to win it for Liverpool late on but his effort was blocked.
Curtis Jones: 52%
Made 100% of his passes in his time on the pitch but didn’t really have much impact on the game. Was played as a number 10 but could’ve been more effective if giving more solidity in deeper areas.
Trey Nyoni: N/A
Brought on with six minute remaining and wasn’t really given the chance to impress. Completed 100% of his passes.
Federico Chiesa: N/A
Only two touches in his four minutes on the pitch. Not enough time to have any impact.
Tottenham Hotspur player ratings
Guglielmo Vicario: 39%
Forced into three saves but should’ve done better with Szoboszlai’s goal, with the free kick being quite central. In a tumultuous week for Tottenham’s goalkeepers he didn’t really do much wrong but, equally, didn’t really inspire much confidence moving forward.
Pedro Porro: 53%
Was given a torrid time by Rio Ngumoha before the Liverpool attacker was taken off. Failed to win any of his ground duels and only 1 aerial duel, while offering little to nothing in the opposition half.
Kevin Danso: 64%
Probably the standout performer in Tottenham’s makeshift defence, winning 50% of his tackles and 50% of his ground duels as well as 100% of his aerial duels. Completed 73% of his passes but shouldn’t keep Romero or Van De Ven out of the side upon their return.
Radu Dragusin: 55%
Some misplaced passes put his side under unnecessary pressure at times but performed well enough to keep his side from too much danger. Made eight clearances and won 50% of his tackles but, much like his central defensive partner, didn’t too enough to retain his place when everyone else is fully fit and available.
Djed Spence: 61%
Did well to keep tabs on Frimpong for the most part, winning all six of his ground duels before being replaced with 15 minutes remaining. Made two interceptions and six clearances but wasn’t really a factor in the opposition half.
Souza: 52%
Deployed on the right side of midfield, Souza showed some dangerous moments in the first half, forcing Alisson into a fine save early on. Was subbed off just before the hour mark but showed signs that he could be an important player for Spurs in the Premier League run-in.
Archie Gray: 47%
The game passed him by somewhat, with two interceptions being his only defensive contribution. Only completed 19 passes, attempting 24 and didn’t have any attempts at goal. Did well enough in the circumstances but nothing more.
Pape Sarr: 50%
Didn’t really do much wrong but hard to say he was a standout performer. Won 83% of his ground duels and made four clearances but didn’t contribute offensively and was on the backfoot for much of the game.
Mathys Tel: 56%
Was a willing runner for Tottenham but didn’t have too much impact in the 75 minutes he spent on the pitch. One blocked shot and an 80% dribble success rate but only won seven of his 17 duels.
Richarlison: 74%
A constant source of danger for Spurs, having five shots with an xG of 0.93. Could’ve scored in the first half with his header going just wide but eventually found the net late on. Now has six goal contributions in six games against Liverpool (4 goals, 2 assists) and becomes the third Brazilian in Premier League history to reach 100 goal contributions (after Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus).
Dominic Solanke: 47%
A willing runner but a fairly anonymous performance from Solanke. No shots, just one touch in the opposition box and just ten passes. You could argue that his presence gained some space for his strike partner but needs to do more in attack to help his side battle relegation.
Xavi Simons: 57%
Forced Alisson into a decent save from distance and had two other shots in his 34 minutes on the pitch but didn’t really force himself into the game after coming on.
Randal Kolo Muani: 53%
Produced the assist for Richarlison after some good touches in the Liverpool box but didn’t really have much impact outside of that.
Callum Olusesi: 52%
Give 14 minutes to impress and did a decent job in that time. Completed 100% of his passes but didn’t really have an impact.
James Rowswell: N/A
Played just one minute and failed to register a touch.
