Fantasy Premier League tips: Three must-have differential picks for FPL Gameweek 22
After a gentler start to 2024 the Premier League action ramps up again, with all 20 clubs playing twice over the coming days.
After Diogo Jota (8 per cent ownership) banked a massive 19 points to top the FPL charts in Gameweek 21, we thought it was a great time to assess the differentials most likely to produce big hauls over the course of an intriguing midweek helping of top flight football.
Here, Holly Shand uses the Squawka Comparison Matrix to pick out the must-haves as attention turns back to the Premier League.
Defender: Nathan Ake vs Burnley (H)
6.2% ownership
Manchester City carry the best clean sheet potential heading into the FPL Gameweek 22 fixtures as they take on Burnley at home, a side they beat 3-0 in the reverse fixture to open the 2023/24 season.
Left-back Nathan Ake is the most attacking of their defenders, with four goal involvements in this campaign. He has two goals and two assists and has completed 90 minutes in the last five consecutive league games.
Midfielder: Eberechi Eze vs Sheffield United (H)
3.3% ownership
Crystal Palace will be looking to bounce back from the 5-0 defeat to Arsenal last time out when they entertain bottom of the league Sheffield United. Eberechi Eze is their talisman and has been clinical at home, scoring in consecutive home starts.
The Blades have the worst defensive record in the league this season, conceding a leading tally of 51 goals and keeping just one clean sheet. Eze is dominant on the Eagles’ set pieces, including penalties, and will need to maximise his routes to points in this performance.
Forward: Ivan Toney vs Spurs (A)
4.4% ownership
Ivan Toney found himself on the scoresheet in his return from suspension last time out and despite being the third most transferred in player for this midweek round of games, he’s still a relative differential in less than 5% of squads.
It was encouraging to see Toney complete 90 minutes last time out, plus he’s on penalties. Spurs away may look like a difficult fixture on paper, but they have kept a clean sheet just once in their last twelve games and Toney should be considered fixture proof.
