Chelsea vs Ipswich prediction, stats, tips & team news

Chelsea will continue their hunt for a top-four finish when they host Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday 13th April at 2pm.

The Blues went into the March international break fourth, but have a tough run. Ipswich continue their fight against relegation, but time is running out.

Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals (3/4 with Quinn Bet)

Chelsea are unbeaten in their past six home league games, winning five. Three of those six games have seen at least three goals scored. With both teams still having plenty to play for the game could be wide open, leading to plenty of chances at either end of the pitch. Whilst Chelsea have been on an unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge, they’ve still conceded four goals in that period showing their vulnerability in defence.

Over 5.5 cards (5/2 with BetMGM)

Chelsea are the worst team in the Premier League this season for discipline. The Blues have averaged 2.75 cards per game in the Premier League, with Ipswich’s average at 2.51 per game. With both teams being among the worst offenders in the league this season, there could be plenty of cards being shown in a match that should be hotly contested with so much on the line.

Chelsea vs Ipswich Odds

How both teams go into Chelsea vs Ipswich

This is a crucial moment for Chelsea, as they look to return to the Champions League. Fifth could be enough for the Blues — or anyone else — given how well English clubs are performing in Europe. But fourth will be the goal just to be certain. This game comes off the back of a trip to Poland to face Legia Warsaw in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final, match they won 3-0. But Chelsea cannot afford to rest or rotate too much, with a lot on the line.

Their recent form, with just one loss — against Arsenal — in their last eight in all competitions and this has given them the edge in the race for the top four, although they are currently just above Newcastle on goal difference and the Magpies have a game in hand. In fact, just six points separate fourth spot from Brighton, in ninth, as the race for the top four really hots up.

Ipswich, meanwhile, are fighting for their lives. They went into the March international break nine points from safety and running out of time. Now, Ipswich have fared better on the road than they have had home, with 10 of their 17 Premier League points coming away from Portman Road. They will also be boosted by the fact that they have already taken three points from Chelsea this season. But the final run-in is tough for the Tractor Boys.

A recent win against Bournemouth just about kept them in touch but they still remain 12 points behind Wolves in 17th and its going to take a special turnaround for Ipswich to be playing Premier League football next season. That victory over the Cherries represent their only points in their last five games and another negative result here, and another win for Wolves, could leave the Tractor Boys all but relegated.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea will hope to be in a position where Omari Kellyman is their only long-term injury absentee for this game. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended.

Ipswich team news

Conor Chaplin could be in contention by the time this game comes around, but Sam Szmodicz is still out. Arijanet Muric and Axel Tuanzebe will await further assessment, while Chiedozie Ogbene and Wes Burns are out for the season.

Chelsea vs Ipswich head-to-head

Ipswich’s 2-0 win earlier this season was their first game against Chelsea in almost 14 years. They’re now looking to do the league double over Chelsea for the first time since 1978-79, which is also the only other time Ipswich have won back-to-back matches against Chelsea.
