Chelsea haven’t played too much in the Premier League recently, with just one game last month owing to other priorities including the EFL Cup final and Club World Cup. But two weeks on from their last Premier League outing, a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace, the Blues are back and will be looking to regain some control on their season.
The Blues were going through a tough patch in December and January, going four games without winning in the Premier League including a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City that essentially knocked them out of the title race – but the two draws with Brighton were also pretty damning. As a result, Chelsea are just three points clear of fourth-placed Manchester United and are under pressure having previously looked comfortable in their position. However, Chelsea have won their past two Premier League matches, against Tottenham and Crystal Palace, and do have two games in hand on Man Utd to open up some space.
At the other end of the table, Burnley are running out of opportunities to move themselves to safety. The Clarets looked to be on their way out of the relegation zone thanks to wins over Brighton and Tottenham but have since stagnated, picking up just one point from their past two matches.
The biggest part for Burnley was the 2-0 defeat to Leicester in midweek, one of their games in hand on the teams above them, a missed opportunity to take some pressure off themselves. Instead the pressure remains on for Sean Dyche’s side who are one point behind 17th-placed Everton having a played a game more (though there are other teams they could catch further ahead).

Burnley vs Chelsea: Match Stats
When Chelsea take on Burnley there’s often something that helps them get out of the block quickly, hitting the Clarets before they can find any time to set up and get comfortable. The Blues have scored in the first half of 14 of their 15 Premier League matches against Burnley, only failing to find the net in the 3-2 defeat in August 2017 when they were 3-0 down at half-time.
Romelu Lukaku was on the scoresheet for Chelsea in midweek, netting the winning goal to help them come from behind and beat Luton Town in the FA Cup. Chelsea fans will be hoping he can make it two in two and the Belgian does have a good record against Burnley, scoring or assisting in all four of his Premier League away games vs the Clarets (three goals, two assists).
