Arsenal team news vs Bayer Leverkusen

Mikel Arteta only has one definite injury absentee for this crunch clash as Mikel Merino misses out with a foot injury that he sustained during the clash against Manchester United in January.

Jurrien Timber suffered an injury during the first half of the clash against Everton over the weekend and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for this midweek game.

Elsewhere, Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard are also doubts and will be assessed.

Gunners standing on cusp of history

The games are coming thick and fast for the Gunners but Arteta will not be complaining, especially with the club on the cusp of history.

Arsenal are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and have an EFL Cup final against Manchester City to enjoy.

If the Gunners can safely negotiate their way past Leverkusen in Europe, they will remain on course to complete an unprecedented quadruple.

No English side has ever won four major trophies in a single season, yet Arsenal remain in the mix to achieve this feat.

Arteta must manage his squad effectively to avoid burnout and players suffering injury, a familiar tale in previous seasons.

Has the Spaniard been dealt a better hand this season? Arsenal now seem to have the ability to grind out results and grab three points even when they are not playing well.

In previous seasons, last weekend’s clash against Everton would have ended 0-0. Somehow, Arsenal found a way to win 2-0 and this is certainly a prerequisite to winning the Premier League title.

Leverkusen proved how dangerous they can be during the first leg and Arsenal will have to be wary of the threat they pose, especially at set-pieces.

Win, and dreams of a quadruple remain intact for Arsenal. Lose, however, and it would dent confidence ahead of the crucial domestic run-in.
