From América to the Premier League
Jiménez broke through at Club América, winning the Liga MX Clausura in 2013, before a 2014 move to Atlético Madrid. It did not work out in Spain, but a switch to Benfica did: he won back-to-back Primeira Liga titles (2015-16 and 2016-17). In 2019 he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers permanently for a then club-record fee of around £30m, where he became a Premier League favourite, later moving to Fulham in 2023 and returning to Wolves in 2026. In all he has scored more than 140 club goals.
The comeback
Jiménez’s career was almost ended in November 2020 when he suffered a fractured skull in a collision at Arsenal, requiring surgery and months out. His return to the pitch — often in protective headgear — is one of the game’s great recovery stories.
One of Mexico’s greatest
Jiménez is one of Mexico’s top two all-time scorers, behind only Javier “Chicharito” Hernández. He is an Olympic gold medallist (London 2012) and a two-time CONCACAF Gold Cup winner (2019, when he took the Golden Ball, and 2025), and also lifted the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League.
