
South Africa’s 2026 World Cup campaign began with an underwhelming 2-0 defeat to Mexico, but they have turned things around and have qualified for the knockout stage.
Spirits were high for Bafana Bafana’s first tournament appearance since hosting back in 2010, however, they rolled over easily to a comfortable-looking Mexico in a match that saw three red cards – one for the hosts and a further two for South Africa.
After going a goal down against Czech Republic in their second match, Hugo Broos and his side were able to rescue a point thanks to a late penalty from Teboho Mokoena.
After starting matchday 3 bottom of the group, South Africa secured a 1-0 win over South Korea to advance to the knockout stage.l

South Africa’s odds plummeted somewhat considerably after their first two games. They started the competition at a huge 1000/1, drifting to 1500/1 after the defeat to Mexico and then 2000/1 after the draw with Czech Republic. However, they are now back into 500/1 after making it out of the group stage,
