We’re nearing the end of the 2024-25 Europa Conference League, with just the Final to come.
While the Europa Conference League isn’t the competition many big clubs want to be in, once they are in, it makes sense to try to win the competition. For Chelsea, this may be their best chance of securing European football for next season, considering the closeness of the European race in the Premier League. And the Blues are just one win away from lifting the trophy, though they face a tough task in Real Betis in the final.

Real Betis
Real Betis could have been a potential opponent for Chelsea in the last 16, but they were drawn in the other path. So now it’s the Final. The Spanish side had to come through the knockout phase play-offs after finishing 15th in the group stage. They won three of their six games, losing two alongside one draw. In the play-offs, Betis beat Belgian side Genk and then thrashed Vitoria Guimaraes in the last 16. They cruised to a 2-0 win over Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of their quarter-final before being held to a surprising 1-1 draw away from home in the second leg. Betis then edged a tight semi-final against Fiorentina, winning after extra-time in the second leg.
Chelsea
Chelsea were the big dogs in the competition and are still odds-on favourites to lift the trophy in May. The Blues went perfect in the group stage with six wins from six, finishing top — four points clear of any other team. They had the best attack and the joint-best defence. And although they’re in the final, it hasn’t been easy. The Blues were made to work hard for their 3-1 aggregate win over FC Copenhagen, setting up a quarter-final tie with Legia Warsaw. Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 win over the Polish side in the first leg and while they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat in the home leg, they still advanced to the semi-finals – albeit on a sour note. The perfect record may be over, but Chelsea bounced back to record a 5-1 aggregate victory over Djurgarden. Chelsea are one win away from history, potentially becoming the first team to win the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
