Arsenal odds to win the Premier League 2024/25: Predicted finish, transfers, best players and full squad

Published: 8:16, 6 September 2024 | Updated: 14:20, 7 September 2024

Arsenal came into the 2024/25 Premier League season looking to go one better after back-to-back runner-up finishes.

The Gunners finished second only to Manchester City across the last two campaigns, with their points total of 89 last season just two short of Pep Guardiola’s men and enough to win the title in all but 11 38-game English top flight seasons. To put into context just how strong Mikel Arteta’s side were last season, they only finished with one point fewer than Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles from 2003/04.

While fans are entirely behind Arteta’s project at the Emirates, there’s no doubt that frustration will grow if Arsenal cannot overhaul Man City to win their first league title in 21 years. After three matches, the Gunners are undefeated and find themselves priced at 2/1 by BetMGM to become English champions once again in 2024/25, the implied probability of this being 33.3%.

So, can Arsenal turn silver into gold and end their long wait for a Premier League title? Read on for everything you need to know about the upcoming season.

Arsenal summer transfer window business

Arsenal transfers in

Arsenal made goalkeeper David Raya’s loan from Brentford permanent while temporarily bringing in Neto from Bournemouth as his understudy. Raheem Sterling joined from Chelsea on deadline day, signing a season-long loan deal.

“I’m buzzing. It’s one where we left it late but it’s one I was hoping for. Looking at everything, I’m just like: ‘this is a perfect fit for me’, and I’m super happy that we got it over the line,” Sterling told Arsenal’s official website of his move to the Emirates. “It’s a perfect fit for myself to be at a football club like this, where you can see that hunger, that desire, year on year, they are pushing and pushing and pushing. That’s exactly how I am as a person.

“Each year you want to get better and do better than the previous year. Hopefully, I can gel really well with the boys and get going.

“It’s time now to meet the boys, get settled in and hopefully now see some game time and make my mark.”

Regarding spending money, left-back and centre-back cover Riccardo Calafiori and midfielder Mikel Merino bolstered Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal transfers out

Mohamed Elneny and Cedric left the club at the end of their contracts, while Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have gone on loan to Lazio and Sevilla, respectively. 22-year-old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo joined Wrexham on a free transfer, while academy graduates Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah will continue their careers at Fulham and Crystal Palace, respectively. Reiss Nelson and Fábio Vieira have also gone out on loan. Nelson has joined Smith Rowe at Fulham, while Vieira will spend the 2024/25 season back at Porto.

Who are Arsenal’s most important players?

Arsenal’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Bukayo Saka

One of Arsenal’s biggest target areas this summer is understood to be signing a No.9 but their reported top target, Benjamin Sesko, has already signed a new contract at RB Leipzig. However, even if they don’t manage to sign a new striker, they have goal threats aplenty.

Kai Havertz emerged as a surprise starting striker last season and ended the campaign with 13 Premier League goals, while Leandro Trossard bagged 12. However, nobody scored more for the Gunners than Bukayo Saka, who hit 16 in the Premier League and 20 overall.

2023/24 was Saka’s most fruitful yet and he followed it up with a strong Euro 2024 campaign where he scored a stunning equaliser in England’s quarter-final clash with Switzerland, while providing plenty of energy and excitement to help the Three Lions to the final.

After the first three matches of the 2024/25 season, Saka has scored one goal, while Havertz netted two goals.

Arsenal’s primary playmaker: Martin Odegaard

Saka added nine assists to his 16 Premier League goals but was just outperformed in this department by Martin Odegaard, who was the only Arsenal player to provide double-figure assists. The Norway international has been a sensation since arriving at the Emirates and last season, he created 102 chances in league play — 11 clear of his nearest teammate who was, of course, Saka.

Odegaard’s 10 assists came from 11.17 xA, suggesting he was actually let down a little by his attacking teammates in front of goal. Nevertheless, now donning the captain’s armband, Odegaard is one of Arteta’s most important players.

But so far in 2024/25, he has yet to open his account, while Saka has already racked up three assists.

Arsenal’s card magnet & top tackler: Kai Havertz

If we’re talking raw tackle numbers, Declan Rice was, predictably, Arsenal’s top performer in the Premier League last season with 83 — at least 17 more than any other teammate. But if you want to get to the core of the Gunners’ nasty streak, look no further than Kai Havertz.

The German forward committed a team-high 49 fouls in the Premier League last season, while he was the only player in Arteta’s squad to reach double figures for yellow cards, getting booked 11 times. Ben White was the next man down in this regard with eight.

Thankfully, Havertz was able to keep a lid on things and avoid getting sent off, but whether it’s an elbow here or a snap at the ankles there, there’s no doubt the former Chelsea man has been training in the dark arts.

Arsenal’s rising star: Ethan Nwaneri

Only 17 years old, Ethan Nwaneri has already made his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Brentford early in the 2022/23 campaign, while he also got 13 minutes in a 6-0 win over West Ham in February.

But it’s the attacking midfielder’s record at youth level that really catches the eye, with Nwaneri bagging 27 goals and 10 assists in 52 appearances across various levels for the Gunners, along with 16 goals in 34 caps for England’s U16 and U17 teams combined.

While Nwaneri is highly unlikely to become a nailed-on starter in the next 12 months, we should see more of him in Arteta’s matchday squads and hopefully, on the pitch from the bench.

Arsenal’s set-piece specialists:

  • Penalties: Bukayo Saka
  • Free-kicks: Martin Odegaard
  • Corners: Bukayo Saka

Arsenal tactical analysis & formation

Arsenal team stats from the 2023/24 Premier League season (avg per game):

  • Corners: 7.0
  • Shots on target: 6.0
  • Shots conceded: 8.5
  • Offsides: 2.3

Despite making a few signings in the summer, Arsenal’s best XI hasn’t changed much from last season. However, Arteta has made one major tactical tweak with Jurrien Timber, who signed last summer but missed the entirety of the 2023/24 season due to a serious knee injury. Timber is now being deployed at left-back, whereas he was predominantly used at right-back at his previous club, Ajax. Expect Calafiori to rotate in for more minutes in that position as the campaign progresses.

The Spaniard continues to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Rice and Odegaard providing dynamism in midfield, William Saliba and Gabriel holding it down at the back, and Saka and Havertz causing havoc from the flanks and through the middle.

Calafiori’s signing from Bologna not only provides cover for Gabriel at left centre-back but also, as mentioned, gives Mikel Arteta another option at left-back. The former Bologna man is a perfect fit for a back-line with four centre-backs. Merino will be looking to infiltrate Arsenal’s midfield, with Sterling hoping to gain regular playing time alongside Saka or potentially in other attacking areas.
