Liverpool odds to win the Premier League: Prediction, best players & stats

There was some uncertainty surrounding Liverpool going into the 2024-25 Premier League season. But there was no need to worry.

The Reds are running away with it at the top of the table, 15 points clear after playing just one game more than the teams below them. Arne Slot’s men have won 21 of their 29 league games so far, drawing seven and losing one. Not bad for Slot’s first season in the Premier League, replacing a manager of Jurgen Klopp’s stature.

As a result, Liverpool are massive odds-on favourites to win the Premier League this season, with BetMGM now not even taking bets on where they’ll finish. If Liverpool do go on to win the league, Slot will be the first to do so in his first season as a Premier League manager since Antonio Conte in 2016-17.

So, can Liverpool go all the way? Read on for everything you need to know about the current season.

Liverpool transfer business

Liverpool have had a pretty quiet season for transfers, with Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili the only arrivals across the two windows. But Mamardashvili hasn’t linked up with his new club yet, remaining at Valencia on loan for the season.  Liverpool did also say goodbye to the likes of Joel Matip, Fabio Carvalho, Thiago Alcantara, Adrian and Sepp van den Berg as the biggest departures.

Who are Liverpool’s most important players?

Liverpool’s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is the best player in the Premier League right now, never mind Liverpool’s best player. He leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 27 goals in 29 games and doesn’t look like stopping. The Egyptian has been helped by the fact that he’s scored nine penalties, the most in the Premier League this season. But that shouldn’t count against his season.

Salah sits first for shots (106) and second for shots on target (55), with only Erling Haaland (57) having more of the latter. Salah is also top for big chances scored, with 21 overall. Liverpool will be hoping they can tie Salah down on a new deal, with his current contract up in the summer.

Liverpool’s primary playmaker: Mohamed Salah

Salah isn’t just Liverpool’s top scorer. He’s their best creator too. And the best creator in the Premier League when it comes to assists, leading the Playmaker Award charts on 17. Salah sits seven assists clear of any other player in the Premier League, with Bukayo Saka, Mikkel Damsgaard and Antonee Robinson joining him on double figures.

Salah also sits clear of any other Liverpool player for chances created on 69 and he’s second only to Cole Palmer (71) in the Premier League as a whole in that regard. The Egyptian is first for big chances created with 21, and all 17 of his assists have come during open play. Salah also sits second — again to Palmer — in the Premier League for Expected Assists at 7.01, all of that total coming from open play, which places him first in the league in that regard. He’s a threat on both fronts.

Liverpool’s card magnet & top tackler: Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister has been as combative as ever for Liverpool this season. The Argentine midfielder has been utilised in the more attacking role of the double pivot, doing a lot of running while Ryan Gravenberch sits just in front of the defence. And getting up and down the pitch has Mac Allister with 77 tackles, more than any other Liverpool player in the Premier League.

But he’s not quite mastered the art of the tackle, also sitting top for Liverpool with 52 fouls. Of course, some of these fouls have been tactical, which are of growing importance. Mac Allister also sits joint-second for yellow cards at Liverpool, with six so far this season. He’s everywhere in the midfield.

Liverpool’s rising star: Conor Bradley

There are currently doubts surrounding the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but some Liverpool fans aren’t overly scared. And that’s not anything against Alexander-Arnold, who has been largely fantastic this season. It’s because they have Conor Bradley waiting in the wings. The Northern Irishman only turned 21 in the summer but plays like a right-back well beyond his years. Already this season he has a big performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League under his belt, helping to keep Kylian Mbappe quiet.

Liverpool’s set-piece specialists:

  • Penalties: Mohamed Salah
  • Free-kicks: Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Corners: Trent Alexander-Arnold + Andrew Robertson

Liverpool tactical analysis, formation & player ratings

Liverpool team stats from the 2023-24 Premier League season (avg per game):

  • Shots on target: 7.3
  • Shots conceded: 10.9
  • Offsides: 2.6

Liverpool 2024-25 player ratings*

  • GK: Alisson – 63% – Alisson had to deal with injuries earlier in the season, but he’s back and looking strong. The Brazilian has saved 80% of the shots on target he’s faced, keeping six clean sheets.
  • RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 76% – Alexander-Arnold is the highest-performing right-back in the Premier League, statistically speaking. He continues to show incredible quality on the ball and has upped his defensive game.
  • CB: Ibrahima Konate – 70% – He suffered a bit with injury, but Konate looks back in a huge boost for Liverpool. The Frenchman has won an impressive 75.81% of his aerial duels in the Premier League this season.
  • CB: Virgil van Dijk – 77% – No one has a higher Squawka Score among centre-backs than Van Dijk, who remains one of the best in the business. He’s unsurprisingly won 74.19% of his aerial duels and lost just 0.26 challenges per 90.
  • LB: Andy Robertson – 68% – Robertson hasn’t been as impressive as his full-back partner, but his numbers are still high. The Scot has averaged 5.87 passes into the final third completed per 90.
  • DM: Ryan Gravenberch – 68% – Gravenberch has slowed down slightly after his fantastic start, but he remains top of the class for No.6s in the Premier League this season.
  • DM: Alexis Mac Allister – 66% – The emergence of Gravenberch has allowed Mac Allister to thrive in a box-to-box role. He’s won 2.04 tackles per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season.
  • AM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 60% – He continues to be a little inconsistent, but he isn’t helped by the fact that his role keeps changing. Offensively, Szoboszlai has created 0.43 big chances per 90.
  • FWD: Mohamed Salah – 84% – Salah already has 34 direct goal involvements to his name, with more goals and more assists than any other player in the Premier League this season. There’s no one better
  • FWD: Cody Gakpo – 80% – He’s been a reliable man for Slot, really coming to his own. Gakpo has averaged 0.55 goals per 90 minutes, whether played through the middle or on the left.
  • FWD: Darwin Nunez – 66% – Nunez is struggling a bit this season, but has scored 0.44 goals per 90 and has 0.3 non-penalty xG on Target.

After starting with a 4-3-3, Slot has Liverpool playing a 4-2-3-1 which allows Szoboszlai to get further up the pitch. This means there’s a double pivot of Mac Allister and Gravenberch, with the former getting up and down the pitch. It’s no surprise that the focal point of the attack is Salah, with the starting striker dropping slightly deeper. But it’s a fluid attack.
