Aryna Sabalenka came up short in her semi-final match up against Karolina Muchova and her attention will now turn to Wimbledon.
The world number two has been one of the WTA’s standout players of 2023 having triumphed at the Australian Open, Madrid Masters and Adelaide International.
Sabalenka is indeed full of momentum as she bids to improve her record at Roland Garros, where she is yet to progress beyond round three.
Although, the 25-year-old could end that wait this weekend after making a purposeful start with straight-set wins over Marta Kostyuk, Iryna Shymanovich and Kamilla Rakhimova setting her through to round four for the first time.
She then beat 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, before eliminating Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals.
Sabalenka was unable to battle past Muchova in the semi-finals though, seeing her French Open pursuit end in three sets.
