Reigning champion O’Sullivan is looking strong in his quest for another successful title defence that would make him the most successful player in Crucible history outright.
The Rocket is refreshed having beaten rival Hossein Vafaei 13-2 with a session to spare in round two, while he was won three of his four previous meetings with Brecel, including a thumping 6-1 victory at the Masters in January.
Excluding a 5-4 triumph at this stage of the 2017 China Championship, the Belgian has won just three frames against O’Sullivan otherwise.
Brecel also arrived in Sheffield having never won a match in his five previous World Championship appearances.
But he is now full of momentum having ended his drought by coming through closely fought battles with Ricky Walden and three-time champion Mark Williams.
The two players will battle it out over the best of 25 frames, with the winner booking their place in this year’s semi-finals.
