Stefanos Tsitsipas entered the tournament as the defending champion looking for a three-peat after winning the title in 2021 and 2022, defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in last year’s final. However, his defence ended at the quarter-final stage, beaten by eighth seed Taylor Fritz.
Tsitsipas wasn’t the only big casualty, with all four of the top seeds now out of the tournament as he hit the semi-final stage. Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud were knocked out in the third round, with the former shocked by Lorenzo Musetti, while Daniil Medvedev joined Tsitsipas in his quarter-final exit.
Andrey Rublev has made it to Sunday’s showpiece after coming from a set down to beat Taylor Fritz in the first of Saturday’s two semi-finals. He now faces Holger Rune after the Dane overcame Jannik Sinner, at one point their semifinal contest was suspended due to heavy rainfall.
