France have been in formidable form across the qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup, with Vincent Collet’s Les Bleus currently topping the table in Group K and already confirming their place in the tournament. With eight wins from their 10 games so far, the two-time Bronze medalists are soaring with confidence.
Having never progressed beyond the quarter-finals prior to 2014, France have reached back-to-back semi-finals at the World Cup, winning the third-place play-off on both occasions. A win over Lithuania in Madrid in 2014 constituted their best-ever finish, before they mimicked that feat in 2019 against Australia in Beijing.
Czech Republic haven’t quite been so succesful. Since becoming an independent nation following the collapse of Czechoslovakia in 1992, they have qualified just once. That came in 2019, and they even reached the quarter-finals in China, but there will be no repeat of their debut appearance at the tournament this year.
Ronen Ginzburg’s side are currently dead last in Group K and have already been eliminated. A proud nation, they will nevertheless be fired up for this fixture against the current pace-setters, hoping to achieve temporary bragging rights and finish their qualification campaign in style.
