Also known as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, the BMW Open is part of the ATP Tour 250 series, one of the lesser tournaments of the year — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some stars involved. Holger Rune is the defending champions having beaten Botic van de Zandschulp in last year’s final, and the Dane is back to try to retain his crown as the top seed.
Van de Zandschulp is also back and among the eight seeded players, one of four receiving a bye to the second round. Also involved are Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev who sit 10th and 16th in the world respectively, the former most recently reaching the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters.
The 2023 BMW Open runs from 17 – 23 April, played in Munich’s MTTC Iphitos tennis complex, not too far from Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena. There has already been a bit of a shock at the tournament with fifth seed Sebastian Baez knocked out of the first round in straight sets by Oscar Otte, while seventh seed Roberto Carballes Baena was also beaten by Marcos Giron.
