The tight nature of the circuit makes overtaking difficult, meaning qualification positions are all the more significant. Historically drivers starting on pole in this race have had a big advantage.
Despite not winning either of the last two races leading up to this one, reigning driver’s champion Max Verstappen is once again the favourite in the betting. Sportsbook CopyBet lists the Red Bull man at 5/6 and as Verstappen has won this race in both of the last two years, he’ll be aiming to make it a hat-trick of victories in 2024.
At 15/2, Lewis Hamilton comes into this race in high spirits after a fantastic win at Silverstone in the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes man loves this Hungarian race, having won it more times than any other driver. Another victory on Sunday would be his ninth – five more than the next most successful driver at the circuit, Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton’s fellow British drivers Lando Norris (10/3) and George Russell (15/2) are ahead of him in the betting and will have plenty of backers in this one. Norris has finished on the podium in three of the last four races while Russell enjoyed victory in the Austrian Grand Prix.
Of the other contenders, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is an 18/1 shot but could be a good value bet for a top three finish at 11/4 given Ferrari’s impressive pace in qualifying lately.
