Lamine Yamal and Mikel Oyarzabal dismantled Saudi Arabia as Spain stormed to a 4-0 victory in Atlanta.
The pair combined to devastating effect, with Oyarzabal teeing up Yamal before bagging a brace himself – becoming the first Spain duo to share goals and assists inside 25 minutes at this World Cup.
Just ten minutes had elapsed when Spain broke the deadlock. Oyarzabal’s low cross found Yamal, who poked home from a tight angle on his first World Cup start.
Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais produced several fine stops to keep the scoreline respectable, but stood helpless as Oyarzabal struck twice in three minutes to make it 3-0.
The Real Sociedad striker came agonisingly close to a hat-trick, clipping the crossbar before driving wide with the goal gaping.
Coach Luis de la Fuente withdrew both scorers at the break, yet Spain kept pressing. Four minutes into the second half, Hassan Al Tambakti deflected Marc Cucurella’s volley into his own net.
Ferran Torres thought he had added a fifth late on, only for VAR to rule the strike out for offside.
Spain top Group H on four points and need just a draw against Uruguay to advance. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, must beat Cape Verde on the final matchday to keep their knockout hopes alive.
