Morocco led from the first minute to the last in a 1-0 win over Scotland in Group C thanks to a first minute goal from Ismael Saibari.

The first half had barely started when Saibari smashed Morocco into the lead. It was a simple ball over the top that broke the Scotland offside trap and Saibari took full advantage. The finish was superb, nestling into the top corner with the perfect mix of power and accuracy.

The game didn’t have the same verve in the remainder of the first half. Morocco looked, by far, the most dangerous side and crafted a couple of chances. They were unable to find another goal, however.

Scotland struggled to have much of an impact in the opening 45 minutes, only registering their first shot in the first minute of stoppage time. As you can see from the momentum graph in our match centre above, Scotland were certainly on the back foot for much of the first period.

The second period began in a similar vein. Morocco were the aggressors and came close twice in the opening few minutes of the second half. They firstly hit the post before forcing Angus Gunn into a fine save.

Scotland came into the game more as things progressed and, with the score at 1-0, there was always a chance they could get back into it.

It wasn’t to be, however. There was plenty of industry but nothing much in the way of chances for Scotland and Morocco were able to claim the victory 1-0.
