Netherlands and Morocco clash in one of the standout Round of 32 fixtures at the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 2am (UK time) on Tuesday 30th June at Estadio BBVA, Monterrey.
The Netherlands won Group F with seven points, scoring 10 goals across three matches and emerging as one of the group stage’s most productive attacking sides. Morocco came through Group C unbeaten, level on seven points with Brazil and behind them only on goal difference. Two of the tournament’s most impressive sides face each other at the first knockout hurdle – and one of them goes home before the Round of 16.
Netherlands vs Morocco predictions & betting tips
| Our Prediction | Odds & Bookmaker | Confidence | Why We’re Backing It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cody Gakpo to score anytime | 5/2 @ Sky Bet (28.6%) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Gakpo has scored in all three group games and carries the momentum of a player in the form of his international career. The Liverpool forward operates from the left and consistently arrives into goalscoring positions with intelligent late runs. Ismael Saibari has scored a goal in each of Morocco’s group games and is a threat going forward, but Morocco’s defensive focus means Gakpo will receive the ball in space on the counter. His finishing quality and positioning make him the standout anytime scorer selection in Monterrey. |
| Both teams to score | 1/1 @ Spreadex (50%) | ⭐⭐ | Morocco have found the net in all three previous meetings with the Netherlands, and Saibari’s three tournament goals demonstrate they can score against any level of opposition. The Netherlands’ defence conceded twice in the group stage including against Japan. A goal came in the first 15 minutes in Morocco’s games against Scotland and Haiti, while it took them just 21 minutes to score in their opener with Brazil. The Dutch netted inside the first five minutes against both Sweden and Tunisia. Both sides carry a real cutting edge and the historical pattern supports goals at both ends. |
Odds correct at time of writing. Please gamble responsibly.
How both teams head into Netherlands vs Morocco
Netherlands
The Netherlands have been among the most productive attacking sides at this tournament, scoring 10 goals across three group games and establishing themselves as genuine contenders for the title. A 2-2 draw with Japan on matchday one was followed by a breathtaking 5-1 demolition of Sweden and a controlled 3-1 win over Tunisia. Ronald Koeman’s side carry real momentum into the knockout rounds.
Each of the Netherlands’ three group games featured at least four goals, with both teams scoring in every match. That attacking output is extraordinary – but it also carries a warning. The Dutch have conceded four times across three games and Morocco carry the firepower to punish defensive lapses. Virgil van Dijk must lead his backline with authority against a Morocco side that scored in the first 21 minutes of their tournament opener against Brazil.
The Netherlands have famously reached three World Cup finals without ever winning the tournament, finishing runners-up in 1974, 1978 and 2010. Koeman’s squad carries the quality to finally end that wait. But Tuesday’s fixture represents the first genuine test of their knockout credentials – and Morocco are more than capable of derailing those ambitions in Monterrey.
Morocco
Morocco came through Group C unbeaten, drawing Brazil 1-1 before beating Scotland 1-0 and Haiti 4-2. Mohamed Ouahbi’s side demonstrated real quality across all three matchdays – competing with Brazil in a game they arguably should have won, and then showing ruthlessness in attack against Haiti. Seven points from three games reflects a side that knows how to win.
Morocco drew with Brazil on matchday one and Ouahbi has publicly insisted his side will fear nobody in the knockout rounds. That confidence is well-founded. Morocco’s defence is constructed to absorb pressure and beat teams on the counter – exactly the approach that caused Brazil problems on matchday one, when the Atlas Lions won the expected goals battle 1.4 to 1.3.
Saibari has scored in each of Morocco’s group games and now has five goals in his last four matches for the Atlas Lions. The incoming Bayern Munich signing has been the tournament’s most consistent individual performer outside the tournament favourites. Achraf Hakimi has been outstanding throughout and his combination with Brahim Díaz in transition gives Morocco a devastating counter-attacking weapon. Koeman knows exactly what is coming – and will need answers.
Netherlands team news
Ronald Koeman carries no confirmed injury concerns heading into Tuesday’s fixture. Bart Verbruggen continues in goal behind a back four of Denzel Dumfries, Virgil van Dijk, Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven. Van Dijk captains the side and provides the leadership and aerial quality Morocco’s set-piece threat demands.
Ryan Gravenberch and Frenkie de Jong anchor the midfield with Tijjani Reijnders operating ahead of them. That trio provides defensive cover without sacrificing quality in possession. Donyell Malen is expected to start on the right, with Gakpo on the left and Brian Brobbey leading the line. Crysencio Summerville and Wout Weghorst offer genuine quality from the bench.
Morocco team news
Noussair Mazraoui, Issa Diop, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Azzedine Ounahi are all expected to return to the starting XI after being rested against Haiti. Ouahbi restores his strongest available side for the biggest game of his tenure as Morocco head coach. Yassine Bounou continues in goal with no fitness concerns confirmed.
Achraf Hakimi returns at right-back. Nayef Aguerd was ruled out of the entire tournament before kick-off with an injury sustained in pre-tournament preparation, so Issa Diop continues alongside Chadi Riad at centre-back with Mazraoui at left-back.
Saibari leads the attack once more, with Brahim Díaz returning alongside him. Bilal El Khannouss and Ounahi provide creative support from midfield. Bouaddi and Yahya El Aynaoui anchor the engine room. Sofyan Amrabat provides experienced defensive cover from the bench.

Head-to-Head
The Netherlands and Morocco have met three times previously. Morocco have scored in every encounter, but the Dutch have come out on top in two encounters. Their only competitive clash came in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup, which ended 2-1 to the Netherlands. Tuesday’s fixture in Monterrey is the first World Cup knockout encounter between these nations – and the historical pattern of Dutch victories combined with Moroccan goals makes for a genuinely compelling betting backdrop.
Which side will find the result they need in the Round of 32?
Both nations enter Tuesday’s fixture knowing that one of the tournament’s most anticipated knockout ties ends here for one of them. The Netherlands carry the attacking momentum and goal-scoring quality to advance. Morocco bring the tactical intelligence, defensive resilience and individual brilliance to cause a major upset.
We’re backing Cody Gakpo to continue his outstanding tournament in Monterrey. 5/2 with Sky Bet for Gakpo to score anytime reflects his relentless form and Morocco’s vulnerability to direct, pacy forwards running in behind their high defensive line.
We also like both teams to score at Evens with Spreadex reflects the attacking quality on both sides, the historical pattern of this head-to-head and the open, transition-heavy nature this fixture promises to deliver.
