Morocco have named their 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup as they aim to eclipse their semi-final appearance in 2022.
Mohamed Ouahbi was appointed as head coach in March this year and faces a tough battle to go one better than his predecessor, after their incredible run to the final four last time out.
The Morocco squad is packed with top class players but there are special mentions for the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazroaui, Brahim Diaz and Sofyan Amrabat.

A lot of Morocco’s squad play their club football in Europe, with just five exceptions. One of those is veteran goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, while the other two shot-stopper options ply their trade in Morocco. Of the 21 players playing in Europe, 16 are in one of the top-five leagues. It includes four Premier League stars.
Eyes will be drawn to the defence, boasting the likes of Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui, though the former is still yet to return following an injury. Bilal El Khannouss also celebrates his permanent move to Stuttgart from Leicester City with a Moroccan callup.

Three players to look out for this summer
Achraf Hakimi (PSG)
Achraf Hakimi faces a bit of race to be fit for the World Cup, though he is expected to be back in time. The Paris Saint-Germain defender returned to training ahead of their Champions League final against Arsenal. He’ll be a key player, not least because he is Morocco captain. Hakimi is also one of the best defenders in the world when at his best.
Hakimi has struggled for playing time in Ligue 1 this season, due to injury issues. But he still managed to average 1.38 chances created per 90 minutes in the league. The 27-year-old was very much involved on the ball for PSG, ranking fifth in Ligue 1 for his 83.45 passes attempted per 90, and third for 104.8 touches per 90. Hakimi doesn’t have to do much defending for PSG, but he still managed a respectable 2.1 possessions won in the middle third per 90, and 1.77 in the defensive third.
Ismael Saibari (PSV)
If you had to keep an eye on just one Moroccan player at the 2026 World Cup, it would be Ismael Saibari. The 25-year-old was flying for PSV in the Eredivisie, helping them to win at a canter. The Eindhoven side scored 101 goals in the league, and Saibari was directly involved in 23 of them. He scored 15 goals, with only four scoring more — including PSV teammate Ricardo Pepi (16) — despite playing a more supportive midfield role.
Saibari’s goals came at an average of 0.63 per 90, from 3.82 shots — 1.55 of which hit the target. But he wasn’t just a goal threat, Saibari was a creator too. The Moroccan provided eight assists across the league campaign at an average of 0.34 per 90. He created 2.18 chances per 90, 0.46 of which were big chances. Saibari will be key to unlocking opposition defences.
Ayoub El Kaabi (Olympiacos)
Ayoud El Kaabi is the top scorer of this Morocco team, with 20 goals across his 55 caps for his country. And he’ll be expected to lead the line, in what may be his last World Cup for Morocco — turning 33 the day after their final group stage game. El Kaabi scored three goals at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, heading the line in all but one match as Morocco were awarded the title.
He comes into the World Cup off the back of a very good campaign for Olympiacos. He scored 18 goals in 24 league games, finishing as the top scorer. It wasn’t enough to lead Olympiacos to the title — as they finished six points behind winners AEK Athens — but it’s good form to take into a World Cup.
