Algeria picked up their first points of the 2026 World Cup when they came from behind to beat Jordan, eliminating the AFC nation in the process.
The first half was a fairly even affair, although Algeria dominated the ball with 74% possession over the first 45 minutes. It was Jordan that took the lead, though. Nizar Al Rashdan finished well and it was a lead that Jordan were able to carry into the break.
Algeria certainly applied the pressure in the second half, knowing that a win would keep their qualification hopes alive. It took until just before the 70 minute mark for them to finally break through the Jordan resolve, however.
Nadir Benbouali was the man to equal things up, with ex-Manchester City forward, Riyad Mahrez, providing the assist. The African side continued to push forward in search of a winner and it came eight minutes from time. Amine Gouiri was the hero, finding the net and condemning Jordan to elimination from their first ever World Cup.
