England vs Ghana team news and predicted lineups

England will look to seal their place in the knockout stages when they face Ghana in Group L at the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 9pm (UK time) on Tuesday 23rd June at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough.

Thomas Tuchel’s side produced an impressive opening performance, beating Croatia 4-2 in their Group L opener. While there were some defensive issues for the Three Lions, their attacking verve have left England fans wanting more. They remain at the forefront of the betting market and this game represents another chance for them to put on another attacking showcase.

Ghana edged past Panama with a last-gasp winner but must improve significantly to trouble England. It was by no means a classic game and probably won’t be filling many highlight shows but it was a vital three points for Ghana in their pursuit of qualification to the knockout stages.

This will be the second ever meeting between these two nations. Their only previous encounter was a friendly in 2011 that ended in a 1-1 draw.

England vs Ghana team news

England team news

Thomas Tuchel is unlikely to make wholesale changes after England’s encouraging 4-2 win over Croatia. Jordan Pickford retains his place in goal behind a back four that Tuchel will look to tighten following two first-half concessions against the Croatians.

Reece James and Nico O’Reilly are expected to continue at full-back. The central defensive partnership between Ezri Konsa and John Stones had issues against Croatia. That could pave the way for Marc Guehi to come back into the starting eleven.

Jude Bellingham and Noni Madueke are expected to operate ahead of Declan Rice and Elliott Anderson. No one is quite sure whether Marcus Rashford or Anthony Gordon will line up on the left hand side.. Harry Kane leads the line as captain and has already scored twice at this tournament.

Bukayo Saka Eberechi Eze offer genuine quality from the bench. Tuchel has the luxury of rotating without compromising the overall standard of his side. No confirmed injuries or suspensions affect England ahead of Tuesday.

Ghana team news

Carlos Queiroz is expected to name a largely unchanged side after Ghana’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama. Lawrence Ati-Zigi has been linked with a possible drop to the bench, with Benjamin Asare tipped to replace him between the posts.

Thomas Partey is a game-time decision and his availability is Ghana’s most pressing concern heading into Tuesday. The experienced midfielder is central to everything Queiroz builds, screening the defence and starting counter-attacks. His absence would significantly weaken Ghana’s midfield platform.

Mohammed Kudus misses the tournament through injury. His absence shifts the creative burden entirely onto Antoine Semenyo and the player occupying the number ten role. Queiroz used Semenyo in multiple positions against Panama and must find a more defined role for his most dangerous attacker against England.

Caleb Yirenkyi, the 20-year-old who scored the winning goal against Panama in stoppage time, is expected to retain his place in midfield. Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah provide pace from wide areas, while Jordan Ayew leads the line as captain.

England vs Ghana predicted lineups
