England were left frustrated in their second game of the 2026 World Cup, being held to a goalless draw by Ghana.
Both sides went into the match off the back of wins in their opening games, with England beating Croatia and Ghana victorious over Panama. While a draw means both sides have a very good chance of reaching the knockout stages, England will feel disappointed about the nature of the result.
The Three Lions didn’t really trouble Ghana, who were happy to soak up the pressure for their point. Thomas Tuchel’s side had 19 shots against Ghana, posing 1.93 Expected Goals. But they only managed four on target, and didn’t really test the goalkeeper. It was a poor game from both attacks, and the first at the World Cup this year to not see a shot on target in the first half.
Ghana’s defending was excellent, though, starving Harry Kane of any meaningful touches. He did have three shots and England’s best opportunity, but sent an effort from close range high over the bar.
England remain top of the group and will stay there going into the final round of fixtures. But the Three Lions will have wanted to have qualification secured with a game to spare.
