Curacao claimed their first ever World Cup point, after Eloy Room’s masterclass held Ecuador to a goalless draw at Kansas City.
The goalkeeper produced a man-of-the-match performance in the Group E clash, making 15 saves to keep Sebastian Beccacece’s side at bay.
Room made a magnificent point-blank stop inside the opening two minutes to deny Enner Valencia, after the Ecuador skipper raced through on goal.
The Curacao stopper also thwarted John Yeboah and Gonzalo Plata as he continued to frustrate Ecuador.
At the other end, Hernan Galindez made a smart double-save in the second half, keeping out Leandro Bacuna and Livano Comenencia in quick succession.
However, it was Ecuador who continued to carry the greater threat, with Valencia and Kevin Rodriguez seeing headers kept out.
Despite 15 shots on target and an xG of 3.05 – the highest by any team that failed to score in a World Cup match – the breakthrough ultimately eluded La Tri, as they played out a fifth goalless draw in their last seven competitive games.
