Cristiano Ronaldo has broken another goalscoring record, after he scored twice in Portugal‘s World Cup 2026 game against Uzbekistan.
The 41-year-old is now Portugal’s all-time top goalscorer at World Cups, breaking the record previously held by Eusebio. Eusebio had scored all nine of his goals at the 1966 World Cup, helping Portugal to a third-placed finish on debut.
But Ronaldo has now taken that record, moving onto 10 goals at the World Cup in 24 games thanks to his brace against Uzbekistan. The goals also made him the first player to score in six different men’s World Cup, now finding the net in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup goals
2006 World Cup
Ronaldo got his World Cup journey underway in Germany in 2006, and was one of Portugal’s must-start players. He played every game for Portugal as they finished fourth, losing to hosts Germany in the third place play-off. But it wasn’t a very good tournament for Ronaldo. He scored just one goal, a late penalty in the 2-0 win over Iran in the group stage. This would be the story of Ronaldo’s World Cups for a while.
2010 World Cup
Four years on from his World Cup debut Ronaldo returned in 2010, playing across the front line. This was a more disappointing tournament for Portugal as they were knocked out in the last-16 by neighbours, and eventual winners, Spain. And Ronaldo struggled too. He once again only scored one goal, this time coming in the 7-0 thrashing of North Korea in the group stage. He netted goal number six of the game, but did also set up Tiago for Portugal’s fourth.
2014 World Cup
Things went from bad to worse for Portugal at World Cups. They were knocked out of the group stage in Brazil in 2014, despite taking four points from their three matches. Ronaldo remained on the left-wing for this World Cup and helped them to their only victory, scoring the winning goal in their final group game against Ghana. But Portugal were hurt by the opening 4-0 defeat to Germany, finishing third on goal difference.

2018 World Cup
The 2018 World Cup was Ronaldo’s best tournament, as he finally worked out how to score more than once. It was the first World Cup in which he led the line for Portugal, and he reaped the rewards very quickly. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the first game against Spain, completing the trio with a wonderful free-kick to equalise in the 88th minute.
He had opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes from the penalty spot, and then put Portugal 2-1 up at half-time. Ronaldo’s scoring wasn’t done there. He netted again against Morocco, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win. It meant Ronaldo had scored in three consecutive World Cup matches, albeit across two tournaments. But Ronaldo’s streak ended at three, with the striker blanking in his next two matches.
2022 World Cup
Ronaldo looked to have put his World Cup troubles firmly behind him when he scored in Portugal’s first match at the 2022 World Cup. He scored the opening goal in Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana, converting a penalty midway through the second half. But that was the only goal he scored at the World Cup in Qatar. He even lost his spot in the starting lineup come the knockout stages.
2026 World Cup
Ronaldo blanked in Portugal’s opening World Cup 2026 game against DR Congo, but only took six minutes to open his account in their second match. It was a lovely first-time finish, making Ronaldo the first-ever player to score in six different men’s World Cups. And he had his second goal before half-time, capping off a swift counter-attack.
