Canada World Cup 2026 squad: 26-man squad selected by Les Rouges ahead of home tournament

Canada are one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup this summer, and they have named their 26-man squad ahead of the tournament.

American Jesse Marsch has been at the helm since 2024 and will lead the nation into the tournament, hoping that home advantage will make the difference as they hunt their first ever win at the competition.

There are several players within the Canadian squad that will be known to fans of European football, with captain Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich arguably the most recognisable name in the squad alongside star striker Jonathan David of Juventus.

It can’t have been easy for Jesse Marsch to whittle his squad down to just 26 players. No more than 71 players have been called up to Marsch’s squads over the last 12 months, including a huge amount of uncapped players who were taken a look at in the run-up in training camps in the build-up to the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.

In the end, it’s a relatively youthful squad that Marsch has selected and there are a handful of players who could be set to put themselves in the shop window here, not least 22 year olds Nathan Saliba of Anderlecht and Niko Sigur of Hajduk Split, both of whom will expect to feature.

A handful of EFL teams are represented in this Canada squad with Ali Ahmed of Norwich City, Liam Millar of recently-promoted Hull City, Alfie Jones of Middlesbrough and Owen Goodman of Barnsley all included while 88 cap forward Cyle Larin spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Southampton and could be set to join them permanently this summer.

Three players to look out for this summer

Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)

The star of Canadian football, Alphonso Davies will lead his nation at a home World Cup this summer at the age of just 25. A star with Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, Davies has already racked up 58 appearances for his country and scored 15 goals in the process, despite playing as a left-back – albeit a very attack-minded one.

His pace and elite-level ability on the ball are key for this Canada side in being able to turn defence into attack at a moment’s notice and he’s lethal in and around the box – particularly for his country. He has the weight of a nation’s expectations on his shoulders but won’t let that effect him this summer.

Jonathan David (Juventus)

Already at the age of just 26, Jonathan David has become Canada’s all-time record goalscorer with 39 international goals and although he’s not enjoyed the most productive first season with Juventus, he remains the main goal threat of this Canada side and his fluid style of play makes him difficult for any defenders to pick up.

Much like Davies, one of the key elements of David’s game is his speed, but his ability to link up with creative players like Davies and Tajon Buchanan make Canada a much more rounded threat than they once were. He won’t give any opposition defenders a second to rest this summer – either on the ball or off it.

Stephen Eustaquio (LAFC)

While David and Davies make Canada a threat on the counter-attack, one of the men capable of leading this Canada side’s structure and organisation out of possession is Stephen Eustaquio. The 29 year old has 54 caps to his name and is a guaranteed starter at the base of Jesse Marsch’s midfield due to his experience and quality in and out of possession.

It’s not just a case of winning the ball back – Eustaquio is calm and composed in possession, capable of breaking the lines and resisting the press. He may not bring the pace and excitement of Davies, David and Buchanan but without players like him and Ismael Kone, the balance of this team would quickly fall apart.
