Canada and Morocco meet in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday evening. Both nations are hoping to continue their impressive campaigns by securing a place in the quarter-finals. Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm (UK time).
Tournament co-hosts Canada have already enjoyed their best-ever World Cup performance. After recording their first victory at the finals and progressing beyond the group stage for the first time, Jesse Marsch’s men added another milestone by defeating South Africa in the round-of-32. That victory didn’t come easily, though, as they required a dramatic stoppage-time goal to book their place in the last-16.
Despite the historic achievements, Canada now face arguably their toughest test of the tournament. Finishing as runners-up in Group B meant they avoided the easier half of the knockout draw, leaving them with a difficult route if they are to continue their remarkable run on home soil.
Morocco will arrive full of confidence after eliminating the Netherlands in the previous round. The Atlas Lions needed a penalty shootout to get the job done after a fiercely contested encounter finished level following extra time, extending their reputation as one of the most resilient sides in international football.
Having reached the semi-finals in Qatar four years ago, Morocco have once again shown they are capable of competing with the world’s elite. Alphonso Davies made his much-anticipated first appearance at the 2026 World Cup last time out, coming off the bench. The Canadian captain has missed most of the tournament so far during injury, a big blow for the co-hosts. But he made a positive impact after coming on — albeit as a winger — and will be eyeing a first start.
Jesse Marsch may opt against starting him, instead leaving him to come on and add fresh legs later in the game. So Richie Laryea will likely continue at left-back, keeping Canada’s defence very settled. Maxime Crepeau will start in goal with Alistair Johnston at right-back. Derek Cornelius is expected to continue at centre-back and Moise Bombito will partner him after recently returning from injury.
Stephen Eustaquio will continue to captain Canada from the midfield in Davies’ absence, partnered by Nathan Saliba. Tajon Buchanan and Liam Millar are the go-to wing pairing on the right and left, respectively. Jonathan David will lead the line, and he could be joined by Cyle Larin who was dropped for Tani Oluwaseyi last time out.

Morocco team news
Chadi Riad had to come off injured in the last-32 win over Netherlands, replaced by Anass Salah-Eddine. But the centre-back has shaken off the knock so will be expected to start this crunch game. And he may form part of an unchanged starting lineup.
Mohamed Ouahbi has a favoured starting XI at the World Cup, naming the same lineup in three of Morocco’s four matches so far. Riad will be joined by centre-back partner Issa Diop, who scored the late equaliser against the Netherlands. Achraf Hakimi should start on the right side of defence, with Noussair Mazraoui on the left. Yassine Bounou will start in goal.
At the other end of the pitch, Ismael Saibari will lead the line looking to build on his decent tournament so far. Azzedine Ounahi will play behind him in the No.10, with Brahim Diaz and Bilal El Khannouss on the flanks. Neil El Aynaoui and Ayyoub Bouaddi are expected to be the starting double pivot, as usual.
