Switzerland Women vs Iceland Women prediction, stats, tips & team news

Switzerland Women will be looking to boost their chances of reaching the Women’s Euro 2025 knockout stages when they take on Iceland Women at Stadion Wankdorf on Sunday 6th July at 8pm (UK time). The hosts have a tough opening game, while Iceland are favoured to finish second in the group. This game will be broadcast live in the UK on ITV.

Switzerland Women to win (21/20 with William Hill)

The Swiss impressed in what is likely the toughest game they’ll face in Group A, taking 17 shots against Norway. They had seven shots on target to their opponents’ three. However, Norway really took things up a gear after half-time and the Swiss struggled to cope.

Iceland don’t really have that cutting edge, so the Swiss should come through this with three points if they can find a breakthrough.

The sides drew their two Nations League fixtures earlier this year, but neither team can really afford to settle for a point.

With Iceland winning only once across their previous 12 internationals, suffering six defeats, back the Swiss to win at a shade above evens.

Geraldine Reuteler to score first (13/2 with bet365)

Crnogorcevic has more international goals than any other woman in Swiss national team history, but she hasn’t found the net for her country in over a year.

Midfielder Geraldine Reuteler has a long way to go before she can match Crnogorcevic, but the Frankfurt player can add to her 14 strikes in this encounter with Iceland.

Reuteler led the Swiss in terms of xG against Norway, finishing with 0.49. She scored the opening goal when these two sides met in April, while she found the net in a win over the Czech Republic ahead of the tournament.

With a close game expected, back Reuteler to break the deadlock at 13/2.

How both teams go into Switzerland vs Iceland

A 2-1 defeat to Norway has put the hosts on the ropes, despite their solid display. The Swiss dominated possession and had the majority of the chances, but a second-half comeback cost them three points.

Norway entered the tournament as the favourites to win Group A, so it’s little surprise they got off to a winning start. Now the Swiss are fighting against Iceland and Finland for second place in the group, with the Icelanders suffering a setback of their own.

Finland shocked Iceland with a 1-0 win in the first game of the tournament. Iceland had gone unbeaten through the group stage at the 2022 tournament, but in both that edition and their 2025 opener, they were hit with the same issues, their inability to take their chances.

It didn’t help Iceland that Hildur Antonsdottir was sent off just shy of the hour mark. The Finns scored not long after Iceland were reduced to 10 players. Antonsdottir is suspended for this clash, while Iceland may ring the changes as they look to bounce back.

For Switzerland, this could be their defining game of the tournament. Issues hang over the hosts, who have struggled with the blend of their squad.

Their ageing stars, like top scorer Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic, have seen their talents fade, while many haven’t quite reached their potential yet. With qualification on the line, this would be the perfect time for things to click.

Switzerland team news

The big question for Switzerland will be how they replace Ramona Bachmann, who suffered an ACL injury in the build up to Euro 2025. Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic only saw three minutes in the loss to Norway but may play more of a part in this contest.

Iceland team news

Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored the goal to secure Iceland’s only previous Women’s Euros win in 2013 and she remains in the squad as one of the senior players. All eyes will be on her to inspire this team and she’ll be needed following their loss in the opening game. Hildur Antonsdottir will be missing after her red card in the previous game.

Switzerland vs Iceland head-to-head

These sides have already met twice this year, sharing two draws in the Uefa Nations League.
