Portugal and Spain meet in the 2025 Uefa Nations League Final at the Allianz Arena on Sunday 8th June at 8pm (UK time). Both countries have already won the Nations League and are bidding to become the first to win it multiple times. This game will be broadcast live in the UK on ITV1 and STV.

Over 3.5 goals (31/20 with Puntit)

Spain’s recent matches have been fun to watch for the neutral. La Roja‘s past four games have all seen at least four goals scored, with Spain netting at least two in each of the matches. Of course, the most thrilling was the 5-4 win over France in the semi-finals of the Nations League, which saw Spain take a 5-1 lead.

Lamine Yamal to score anytime (11/5 with Betway)

Lamine Yamal is the man of the moment. Well, kid. The Spanish superstar is very much living up to the hype for club and country. Yamal scored twice in Spain’s win over France in the Uefa Nations League semi-final, and has netted three in his past two matches for La Roja.

How both teams go into Portugal vs Spain

Portugal were the inaugural Uefa Nations League champions, lifting the first crown in 2019 by beating Netherlands in the final. This is the first time they’ve been in the final four since, and Portugal are chasing glory. Portugal finished top of their League A group unbeaten, with four wins and two draws from their six games. They then beat Denmark 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, having lost the first leg in a thrilling tie. Portugal came from behind once more in the semi-finals, though this one was restricted to just one game. Roberto Martinez’s men went 1-0 down to Germany just after half-time but goals from Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the win.

Spain are the defending Nations League champions, beating Croatia on penalties in the final in 2023. It was a win which saw Spain put heartbreak behind them, having previously lost the final in 2021. La Roja had the best record of any League A team in the 2024-25 Uefa Nations League, taking 16 points from a possible 18 in their group. They only dropped points in a goalless draw with Serbia, who were tough to beat at home. Spain needed penalties to knock Netherlands out in the quarter-finals, after a 5-5 draw across the two legs. The semi-final was another high-scoring affair as Spain beat France 5-4, having led 5-1 with just under 15 minutes left to play.

Portugal team news

Although there are only a few days between the semi-finals and final, Martinez is unlikely to make too many changes to his Portugal starting XI. He did utilise Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves as a right-back, so there’s a decision to be made there. Vitinha will be pushing for a start in midfield, ahead of Ruben Neves.

Spain team news

Spain’s strength was in their starting XI against France, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them name the same players. Fabian Ruiz may hope for one of the midfield spots, but Pedri, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi are a strong trio.

Portugal vs Spain head-to-head

It’s been almost three years since these two neighbours met, in the 2022 Uefa Nations League group stage. Spain are unbeaten in their past six games against Portugal, though four of those have been draws.
