Mohamed Salah’s latest record proves he’s the most consistent player in Premier League history

Mohamed Salah once again etched his name into the Premier League history books.

Liverpool’s talismanic Egyptian forward became the first player in competition history to score or assist in 12 consecutive games not once, but twice.

His record-equalling moment came when he converted a spot-kick in their 3-1 home win over West Ham on matchday six. It also made him the fifth player to either score or assist a goal in each of his team’s opening six games of a Premier League campaign, after David Beckham for Man Utd in 2000/01, Thierry Henry for Arsenal in 2004/05, Sergio Agüero for Man City in 2019/20, and Erling Haaland for Man City in 2022/23.

Beckham would go on to score or assist in Man Utd’s first seven games of that season while Haaland did so in the first nine.

Salah’s level of consistency since joining from Roma has been unreal. During this period, spanning from August 2017, no one has played more games (224) than him, with Ederson and Jordan Pickford one behind. When it comes to minutes Salah (18,717) is only behind Lewis Dunk (19,089), David de Gea (19,305), James Tarkowski (19,603), Ederson (19,947) and Pickford (20,023).

It is his productivity with those minutes that is more startling, though. Of those who have played at least 38 times in England’s top division since Salah joined Liverpool, only Agüero (1.11) and Haaland (1.44) boast a superior Goals+Assists per 90 (0.97) score.

It goes without saying that when all is said and done, Salah will enter the league’s hall of fame. To date, no African footballer has bagged more goals in a Premier League season (32 – 2017/18). Alongside former Arsenal forwards Ian Wright and Robin van Persie, he’s managed to score against 17 different teams in a Premier League season.

Salah also became the first player to outscore three Premier League teams in a season: West Brom (31), Swansea City (28) and Huddersfield Town (28) in 2017/18.
