Brighton are pushing for Europe, Newcastle are drifting in mid-table, and neither side looks like they can keep a clean sheet for love nor money. Saturday’s 3pm kick-off at St James’ Park isn’t on the box, but there’s plenty at stake for the visitors and a real sense Newcastle are just playing out the string after five straight defeats. Best Bets & Predictions
| Our Prediction | Odds & Bookmaker | Confidence | Why I’m Backing It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yankuba Minteh Over 1.5 Fouls Committed | 6/4 @ Bet365 (40.0%) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh has seen an uptick in his foul figures in recent weeks. Across his last five matches his fouls committed totals read 2,2,4,0,2, giving plenty of appeal to the 6/4 on offer for him to give away two or more against Newcastle. |
| Pascal Gross Anytime Assist | 24/5 @ William Hill (17.2%) | ⭐⭐⭐ | Newcastle have lost five consecutive matches across all competitions, conceding 14 goals in the process. The door could be open for Brighton on Saturday and after three assists in his last seven top-flight matches Pascal Gross looks an excellent price in the player assist market. |

How both teams go into Newcastle vs Brighton
Newcastle left the Emirates feeling like they had more to give after a tight battle with Arsenal, but a moment of quality from Eberechi Eze from a set piece made the difference. Yoane Wissa’s missed close range chance summed up their frustrations, with the Magpies now stuck in a rough run of four straight Premier League defeats that has dragged them down to 14th in the table.
That loss also ended their 18 game scoring streak in all competitions, a rare blank in front of goal for Eddie Howe’s side. Despite the slump, St James’ Park has still delivered goals, with both teams scoring in each of Newcastle’s last eight home matches, showing how open their games continue to be.

Brighton continued their strong late season push with a controlled win over Chelsea at the Amex, where Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck all made the difference. It was another sharp showing under Fabian Hurzeler, keeping the Seagulls just about alive in the race for a top five finish, even if the gap to the Champions League places remains significant.
The form is hard to ignore, with 13 points from the last 15 making Brighton the Premier League’s standout side over recent weeks. They have also been solid away from home, picking up 10 points from their last four games on the road, and they come into this run having gone six matches unbeaten against Newcastle since October 2021.
Newcastle team news
Newcastle head into their clash with Brighton missing several key names through injury and suspension. Emil Krafth is ruled out for the season after knee surgery, while Fabian Schär is also sidelined for around a month following minor foot surgery. Valentino Livramento is still being assessed after a groin issue and remains a doubt.
Anthony Gordon is expected to miss out after not training due to a groin problem, although it is not considered serious. Joelinton is suspended after reaching 10 yellow cards, adding to Eddie Howe’s selection problems ahead of a crucial Premier League fixture.
Brighton team news
Brighton are still dealing with several absentees across the squad. Stefanos Tzimas remains out long term with an ACL injury, while Diego Gomez is also sidelined after a knee problem that is still being assessed. Adam Webster continues his recovery from knee surgery and is not yet available.
James Milner is ruled out but expected back before the end of the season, while Solly March misses out with a minor muscle issue but could return soon. Fabian Hurzeler’s side still have depth, but the injuries continue to limit options in key areas ahead of a busy run-in.

Recent Meetings
These two have met plenty in recent years, with Brighton holding the edge. The last time out, Brighton edged it 2-1 at home back in October. Most meetings are tight — five of the last six finished under 2.5 goals, but both teams have scored in three of the last six.

Can Brighton Exploit Newcastle’s Defensive Woes? Final Thoughts
Brighton have more to play for here and we would not put anyone off backing the visitors on Saturday. However, the two bets that we like the look of, are for Minteh to commit 2+ fouls at 6/4, and Pascal Gross to turn provider and an assist at 24/5 with William Hill.
