Canada vs Ireland: predictions, stats, tips & odds

Canada play their final friendly before hosting the 2026 World Cup when they take on Ireland in Montreal.

Les Rouges made it seven games unbeaten on Tuesday evening when they beat Uzbekistan and they’ll be looking to carry that momentum into their first group stage game with another positive result against Ireland.

The Irish national side didn’t make it to the World Cup but this friendly represents a good chance for them to pit their abilities against one of the dark horses in the competition. Kick off is scheduled for 12:30am (UK time) on Saturday 6th June.

Best Bets & Predictions

Goals don’t look likely in this fixture, with Canada excelling at picking up draws or narrow victories. With that in mind, we’re backing this game to see under 2.5 goals. If Canada do find another low-scoring win in this fixture then Cyle Larin could be the difference maker and we’re having a small punt on him to find the net.

⭐⭐⭐⭐Despite coming into this game off the back of a seven game unbeaten run, Canada have only scored seven times in that time. They have kept six clean sheets though, conceding just two goals in that time. Ireland have scored a little more frequently but have struggled away from home, scoring eight in their last seven games outside of Ireland

⭐⭐⭐Many expected Canada to line up with a single striker but in their recent friendlies, both Larin and Jonathan David have been deployed as a partnership. David attracts most of the attention but Larin has enjoyed a good season and could be given the space to capitalise. He spent the latter stage of the season on loan at Southampton, scoring nine goals in 22 appearances for the Saints.

Odds correct at the time of writing.

How both sides head into Canada vs Ireland

Canada come into this game on a good run, not experiencing a loss since a 1-0 friendly loss against Australia in October 2025. They’ve drawn four of the seven games since but victories over Venezuela, Guatemala and Uzbekistan have served as confidence boosting results. The most inspiring thing for Jesse Marsch’s side has been their defensive performances in those games. They have kept six clean sheets in that run, with a 2-2 draw with Iceland being the only blot on their copybook.

Ireland have won five of their last seven but, crucially, their only loss came in the most important game; the qualification playoff against Czech Republic. They lost on penalties, missing out on a decider against Denmark. Results outside of that have been really impressive, with victories over Portugal and Hungary showing that the side have plenty of desire and heart. It’s been a disappointing period for Ireland, missing out on the World Cup, but there is plenty to be excited about for Irish fans.

Head-to-Head: Last Meeting

These two sides have only met once previously, with Ireland running out 3-0 winners in a friendly match in 2003.

Can Canada continue their good run or will Ireland ruin the party?

This looks to be quite an even matchup, with Ireland naming a less experienced squad negating some of their good recent form. Neither side look like they have plenty of goals in their ranks and we’re confident in backing under 2.5 goals at 31/40 with Betway in this one. There looks to be a little bit of value in backing Cyle Larin to score anytime at 11/5 with Ladbrokes too, with Jonathan David likely to take much of the attention away from his strike partner, leaving Larin plenty of space to exploit.
