Leandro Paredes returns to Roma and lands iconic shirt number
Leandro Paredes will once again be wearing a Roma jersey after completing his permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 29-year-old Argentine defensive midfielder previously enjoyed a two-year spell in the Eternal City during which he made 54 appearances before leaving for Zenit Saint Petersburg from where Paris Saint-Germain acquired his services.

His period in Paris had been mixed, only making at least 20 league appearances just once across five seasons, and last term he spent time on loan at Juventus.
Paredes’ return is somewhat of a homecoming and the World Cup winner inherits one of the club’s most fabled shirt numbers. Francesco Totti’s number 10 shirt remains vacant but Daniele De Rossi’s number 16 is once again back in circulation.

“I never would’ve allowed it to happen without Daniele’s permission,” he said.
In a recent Instagram story, De Rossi – who became good friends with Paredes when playing together for Roma in the past – gave his seal of approval and complimented him on his return.
“Welcome back home, my friend,” wrote De Rossi. “This number fits you perfectly.”

“Coming back to Rome is always a special thing, but doing so now as a Roma player is even more special,” he added.
“I’d like to thank the fans for welcoming me and Roma for bringing me back to the club where I launched my career in Europe. Last year was an incredibly happy one for me with the World Cup, so now I want to keep tasting success and I’m convinced I can do just that with this team.”
