How both teams go into Germany vs Denmark

The second game of a group stage is an important one. Teams can either secure their spot in the knockout stages, or see themselves knocked out. Germany will be hoping it’s the former. They enjoyed a favourable opening fixture, laying down a marker with a 2-0 win over Poland, while Denmark are now up against it after losing 1-0 to former champions Sweden.

Germany have never failed to reach the quarter-finals at the Women’s European Championships, since that round was added. Although it’s worth noting that you only need to get out of the group to be in the quarter-finals. Three years ago, Germany went all the way to the final but lost out at Wembley. They’re looking to add a ninth European Championship to their collection.

After their runners-up finish in 2017, and a run to the semi-finals four years earlier, Denmark did underwhelm in England in 2022. They won one and lost two of their three games, failing to make it past the group stage for the fourth time in their history.

Germany team news

Lea Schuller is likely to lead the like for Germany, aiming to add to her 53 goals — one of which came against Poland. Ann-Katrin Berger was in fine form in the opening game, making two saves and keeping a clean sheet despite 0.67 xGOT faced. Bayern Munich right-back Giulia Gwinn went off in the first half against Poland and is a major doubt for this game.

Denmark team news

Pernille Harder will be key to Denmark’s game, not least because she plays her football in Germany with Bayern Munich. The veteran winger scored 23 goals for the Bavarians across all competitions last season, while she has 70 goals in 147 caps for Denmark.

Germany vs Denmark head-to-head

These two sides haven’t faced off since 2023, when they shared wins in the Uefa Nations League. Germany and Denmark have traded wins back and forth in each of their last four meetings.
