Germany and France face off in the 2025 Uefa Nations League third-placed play-off at the Stuttgart Arena on Sunday 8th June at 2pm (UK time). It’s a game neither nation will have wanted to be in, so we may see some rotation in the sides. The game will be broadcast live in the UK on Amazon Prime Video.
Germany to score first (4/5 with bet365)
Germany have been starting fast in the Uefa Nations League recently. Die Mannschaft have scored the opening goal in seven of their past nine Uefa Nations League matches, including in the semi-final against Portugal. At the same time, France have conceded the opening goal in two of their past three Nations League matches.
Germany to win and BTTS (3/1 with Sky Bet)
Germany have enjoyed recent meetings against France, winning their past two games. Both of those matches were friendlies, happening in each of the past two years. But Germany’s defence has been leaky of late. Die Mannschaft have conceded in each of their past four matches since a clean sheet against Bosnia-Herzegovina in November.

How both teams go into Germany vs France
Germany were in the final four of the Nations League for the first time, and they were selected to host the mini tournament. Die Mannschaft topped their League A group unbeaten, having won four and drawn two of their six games to finish five points clear of second-placed Netherlands. Their reward was a quarter-final tie against Italy, which wasn’t straightforward. Germany won the first leg 1-2 away from home and led the second game 3-0, before conceding three goals to set up a nervy finish. Die Mannschaft then took the lead in the semi-final against Portugal, but conceded two goals in five minutes and went on to lose.
France won the Uefa Nations League in 2020-21, beating Spain in the final. But they didn’t make the final four in 2022-23. This is their second appearance in the final four, but it hasn’t gone as France would have hoped. Les Bleus finished top of their League A group on goal difference, finishing one better than Italy. They had won four of their six games with one draw and one defeat. France had to come from behind in their quarter-final against Croatia, losing the first leg 2-0. They won the second leg 2-0 and eventually advanced on penalties. But France were blown away by Spain in the semi-final, despite the close 5-4 scoreline. Les Bleus trailed by four goals before being allowed back in the game late on with Spain confident of a victory.
Germany team news
Nick Woltemade was handed his debut last time out, but may be dropped for Niclas Fullkrug to lead the line. Germany have the benefit of one day’s extra rest compared to their opponents.
France team news
Rayan Cherki starred off the bench in the semi-final and may push for a start ahead of Michael Olise, whom he replaced just after the hour-mark. Didier Deschamps has conceded he “will be forced to make a lot of changes” due to the quick turnaround between games.
Germany vs France head-to-head
Germany have won their past two games against France, ending a run of six without victory. But France are unbeaten in the past four competitive meetings, since a 1-0 win for Germany in 2014 World Cup.
