Genoa vs Inter Milan live stream preview: Watch Serie A opener online
Inter begin the defence of their Serie A crown with an away match at Genoa on Saturday.
The visitors secured their 20th Scudetto, earning a second star on their jersey. Even after drawing their final two fixtures, the Nerazzurri had a 19-point lead over Milan in the final standings. This was the second-biggest difference between first and second place in Italy’s three-points-per-win era, surpassing Napoli’s achievement from the previous year.
Genoa showed resilience during their comeback campaign, earning 18 points from losing positions, a club record since the top flight returned to 20 teams in 2004. As a result, relegation was never a concern, and they finished mid-table with a final-day win over Bologna.
Genoa only lost five times at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris in 2023/24. The Rossoblu now start a new league campaign at their home stadium, where they beat Reggiana 1-0 in the Coppa Italia last Friday.

Genoa vs Inter Milan team news
Genoa is starting the season with a new number one, as Josep Martínez joined Inter earlier this summer, providing competition for Yann Sommer.
Either Pierluigi Gollini or Nicola Leali will feature as the goalkeeper. Albert Gudmundsson, who was frequently linked to the Nerazzurri, has left for Fiorentina, following his 14-goal campaign last term.
Mateo Retegui has already left for Atalanta. Vitinha and Junior Messias, who scored Genoa’s winner in the cup, could form a makeshift front pairing, as former partner Mateo Retegui has left. New signing Andrea Pinamonti may make his debut from the bench.
Inter’s key summer signing, Mehdi Taremi, had scored five goals in three preseason friendlies before getting injured. He has since returned to training and is expected to be available. However, the team will miss several other players for the upcoming match.
Head coach Simone Inzaghi will be without new signing Piotr Zieliński, Stefan de Vrij and Tajon Buchanan.
Despite Taremi’s return, Inter is likely to rely on the established strike partnership of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez to lead their attack. Interestingly, Lautaro Martínez has not scored against Genoa out of the 29 opponents he’s faced in Serie A, but the Argentine has been involved in five goals in his last four season openers.
