Chelsea will look to take a step closer to the 2025 Club World Cup knockout stages when they take on Flamengo at Lincoln Financial Field on Friday 20th June at 7pm (UK time). Find our match preview and prediction below.
Marc Cucurella 1+ foul committed & 1+ foul won (10/11 with Sky Bet)
After both teams came out victorious in their opening match, this game could have huge significance for who tops Group D. As a result, I expect a high-foul count on Friday, and the player I’m targeting in both the fouls conceded and fouls won market is Marc Cucurella.
The Chelsea man has given away a foul and been fouled at least once in five of his las six matches. Those figures immediately give appeal to the odds of 10/11 with Sky Bet, but add in a fiery South American side in the form of Flamengo and I think this looks a great price. It’s also worth noting that for club and country, since the start of last season, the left-back averages 1.2 fouls committed per 90 minutes and 1.2 fouls won per 90 minutes.
Marc Cucurella to commit 2+ fouls & Luiz Araujo to commit 3+ fouls (10/1 with Sky Bet)
At 10/1 I think it’s worth chancing Cucurella to give away two or more fouls in this clash with Flamengo. For his national side his averages rise from 1.2 fouls won to 1.7. With this being a tournament, I think he could be being overlooked a little in this market against a team of this nature.
Flamengo’s Luiz Araujo gave away a whopping five fouls in his team’s opener against Esperance. Chelsea have plenty of players who can draw fouls and I think this one can go close at a big price.

How both teams go into Flamengo vs Chelsea
Flamengo are at the Club World Cup for the third time, qualifying as winners of the 2022 Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian side were runners-up in their first Club World Cup appearance, beaten by Liverpool in the final in 2019. They then lost in the semi-finals of the 2022 edition, beaten by Al Hilal. But Flamengo did beat Al Ahly to secure third. Flamengo enter the Club World Cup in good domestic form, leading the Brazilian Serie A table and through to the last-16 of the Copa Libertadores. Flamengo faced Esperance Tunis in their first game and as expected, came away with three points after a 2-0 win. However, all eyes will be on this game, especially with former Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis in the dugout.
Chelsea opened their Club World Cup campaign against Los Angeles FC, and got off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory. The Blues are in the Club World Cup for the third time, with mixed results. They lost the final in 2012, beaten by Brazilian side Corinthians. Chelsea then won the 2021 edition (in 2022) by beating Brazilian side Palmeiras in the final. The Blues have entered the tournament on a high, having won the UEFA Conference League and secured a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Flamengo team news
Flamengo have announced the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho from Arsenal, and he’ll be looking to feature against his ex-club. Flamengo also have ex-Juventus pair Danilo and Alex Sandro set to feature in their defence. Gonzalo Plata and Nicolas de la Cruz have both been suffering with injuries.
Chelsea team news
Trevor Chalobah may be given a start with Tosin Adarabioyo having been carded in their first game. Enzo Fernandez is likely to come back into the starting XI after coming off the bench against Los Angeles.
