Burnley vs Sunderland predictions, odds, betting tips and team news

Regis le Bris and his Black Cats will travel to Turf Moor to face Scott Parker’s Burnley, as the two newly promoted sides face off. This game will be played on the 23rd of August, kicking off at 15:00.

Sunderland Draw No Bet (5/4 with Betway)

Sunderland have won or drawn four of their past five games against Burnley, with their only loss being a high scoring one at the Stadium of Light, losing 4-2.

Sunderland will also be riding high following their 3-0 win over West Ham on the opening weekend of the season. The Black Cats were in fine form in the season opener and this game will serve as an ideal follow up as they come up against a Burnley side that were outclassed by Spurs by the same scoreline in their opening game of the season.

Under 2.5 goals (8/13 with Betway)

Their past three games have only had one goal combined, with one 1-0 win for Sunderland and two 0-0 draws. This has, traditionally, been a low scoring affair and we can see that continuing in this contest as both sides attempt to keep things tight.

Despite both teams being involved in three goal games last weekend, we can’t see a similar outcome this time out with defence being key at both ends of the pitch.

How both teams go into Burnley vs Sunderland

As mentioned above, it was a far from ideal start to life back in the Premier League for Burnley. They went down 3-0 against Tottenham, with Richarlison putting them to the sword with two goals.

Whilst it wasn’t the result they would’ve wished for, there were some positives with their general play being good and there will be plenty for Scott Parker to build on in what proved to be a baptism of fire on their return to the top flight.

Conversely, it was a brilliant opening weekend for Sunderland, who took apart a poor looking West Ham side with relative ease. It was a new look side for the Black Cats, who handed eight players their debuts but the side looked as though they had been playing together for some time, especially in attack where they looked potent.

An away trip to Turf Moor represents a different challenge however and it’s likely Sunderland will opt for a more pragmatic approach as they look to take points off a side that came within just one point of being crowned title winners in the Championship last season.

Burnley team news

Parker is set to be without Bashir Humphreys, Connor Roberts, Zian Flemming, Zeki Amdouni, Jordan Beyer and Mike Tresor through injury. It’s also unlikely the Armando Broja starts the game but there is a chance he’ll make the bench as he tries to make his debut for his new club.

Sunderland team news

Le Bris will also be missing a fair few of his squad, as Romaine Mundle, Dennis Cirkin, Ajbola-Joshua Alese, Leo Hjelde and Luke O’Nien all out with injuries. There are no fresh injuries for Sunderland to be concerned with though.

Burnley vs Sunderland head to head

Sunderland have won two of their last five meetings with Burnley, with two of the fixtures ending in a draw and Burnley getting one victory.
