Mesut Ozil has heaped praise on Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka after his match-winning brace in Sunday’s 3-2 Premier League win over Liverpool.

The England international was heavily involved in all three of Arsenal’s goals as Mikel Arteta’s men stunned the travelling Merseysiders to leapfrog Manchester City back into first.

He provided the pre-assist for Martin Odegaard’s through ball to Gabriel Martinelli, before scoring on the stroke of half-time with a far-post finish, and then tucking home confidently from the penalty spot.

Bukayo Saka news: Mesut Ozil a huge fan

  • Mesut Ozil has declared his “love” for Bukayo Saka after his Liverpool performance (click here for full quotes).
  • The 21-year-old scored twice as Arsenal beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-2 on Sunday.
  • Saka is one of only two U21 players to have scored 10+ Premier League goals since the start of last season alongside Martinelli.
  • Arsenal next face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and Sky Bet are offering odds of 6/4 for them to win to nil.

That result ensured the Gunners reclaimed first in the Premier League as the early pace-setters, having conceded their position to reigning champions Manchester City the day prior, who emphatically dispatched Southampton 4-0.

Saka’s two goals at the Emirates on Sunday means he is now Arsenal’s second-most productive player in the Premier League in 2022/23. He has been directly involved in seven goals (three goals, four assists), with only Gabriel Jesus (eight — five goals, three assists) having a hand in more.

Following the contest against Liverpool, the eulogies for Saka were naturally plentiful, with former playmaker Ozil even taking to social media to show his appreciation for his old team-mate. He tweeted: “Just love for my boy @BukayoSaka87. Rocking the Premier League.”

The oft-polarising midfielder signed off his tweet with three fire emojis and an appreciation hashtag for Arsenal which read: “#YaGunnersYa”.

Saka will most likely be given a rest on Thursday as Arsenal travel to Norway to take on Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, with the likes of Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos set to be given a chance. But, he will be back in the line-up at the weekend as the Gunners return to the Premier League against Leeds at Elland Road.
