Jurgen Klopp’s men sit in second place on 82 points, a point behind first-placed Manchester City. Last time out the Reds secured a 1-0 win at Newcastle United to extend their unbeaten streak to 15 matches (13 wins and two draws).
As for Spurs they come into this weekend’s game in fifth and seeking to play Champions League football next season. When the sides last met they played out a 2-2 draw, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min finding the net for Spurs and Diogo Jota and Andrew Robertson replying for Liverpool.
With that being said, Liverpool have got the better of Tottenham of late, unbeaten in their last eight Premier League matches (six wins and two draws). Tottenham are looking for their first league win in games between the two clubs since October 2017. The Reds have outscored Spurs 16-9 during this unbeaten streak.
Liverpool team news
Roberto Firmino will face a late fitness test. “I don’t know about Bobby, but he is back in training, so we have to make a decision. He hasn’t done a lot. It might be possible but it might make more sense to train through the weekend,” head coach Jurgen Klopp told reporters. Mohamed Salah is expected to start. To say he’s been important for Liverpool this season is an understatement.
Salah is the club’s leading scorer with 22 goals, with no other player managing more in the league. Someone else who should feature is Sadio Mane, the Senegalese international has scored in 49 different Premier League games at Anfield (1 for Southampton and 48 for Liverpool) avoiding defeat in all 49 of those matches (44 wins and five draws) – the most games a player has scored in at a single stadium in the competition’s history without ever losing.
Tottenham team news
Matt Doherty is currently being assessed but this Liverpool game comes too soon. Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Reguilon and Oliver Skipp are ruled out as well. Harry Kane should be there from the start. He comes into this weekend’s game having been involved in nine goals in 13 Premier League appearances against Liverpool (seven goals and two assists), with five of these coming in seven games against them at Anfield (four goals and one assist).
His partner-in-crime Son Heung-min has scored 19 Premier League goals this season, with none of them coming from the penalty spot. He could become just the second Tottenham player to score 20 in a Premier League campaign without any of them being penalties, after Gareth Bale in 2012/13.
