It’s been a gruelling and drama-fuelled stateside spectacle in the men’s US Open, with Karen Khachanov reaching his first semi-final at a Grand Slam event, while Norwegian Casper Ruud is looking to make his second final of 2022 after finishing as the runner-up at Roland-Garros back in June.

Khachanov, the current No. 31 seed, has taken down stiff and awkward competition to reach the penultimate phase, including champion-slaying and mercurial Aussie Nick Kyrgios, as well as 2020 semi-finalist Pablo Carreno Busta and promising Brit Jack Draper. His best prior placement in the US Open was the Third Round in 2020 and 2018, so he will be relishing this contest in Queens.

Ruud, likewise, has claimed some huge scalps to make the final-four. ‘Lucky loser’ Corentin Moutet was enjoying a fine tournament, but came unstuck against Ruud in four sets two rounds ago, while 2019 semi-finalist Matteo Berrettini lost comprehensibly in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

Earlier this year Ruud became the first Norwegian man in history to reach a Grand Slam final, and the 23-year-old, who is the son of former professional tennis player Christian, will be looking to enhance his legacy further by reaching a second in the space of just a few months.

Prediction: Casper Ruud to win in five sets
