It’s the first double gameweek of the 2020-21 Premier League season with FPL managers weighing up some big decisions ahead of a packed six days of action.
There are currently 15 fixtures scheduled to fall between Saturday afternoon and Thursday evening with nine teams in action twice during that period.
Anyone who resisted the temptation to use their Free Hit during gameweek 18 might be considering overhauling their squad for this round with fixtures coming thick and fast. Whether you’re making sweeping changes or tweaks here and there, we have pulled together our recommended signings using information from Opta and Sky Bet.
Opta’s stats power the FPL game and help steer the Sky Bet market so what better way to figure out how to build your squad this week? Be warned, Saturday’s deadline is at 11:00 ahead of West Brom’s visit to Wolves (12:30 kick-off).
Kevin De Bruyne
A no-brainer, perhaps, but a double gameweek and two home games for Manchester City makes De Bruyne a must-have.
After a 13-point haul against Chelsea 11 days ago, the Belgian followed that up with six more against Brighton last night, an ominous sign for Crystal Palace and Aston Villa who visit the Etihad on Sunday and Wednesday respectively.
De Bruyne is currently 11/8 to get on the score sheet on Sunday. After Raheem Sterling’s dreadful spot kick this week, it also might be safe to assume penalty duties will be handed back to the midfielder.
Two tough home fixtures await Leicester with Southampton coming to town on Saturday before Chelsea arrive midweek. The big games are where Vardy is at his best however having scored against Arsenal, Wolves, Tottenham, and Manchester United this season, also bagging a hat-trick against Manchester City.
Somewhat surprisingly, Vardy is being overlooked this season, owned by just 25.3 per cent of FPL managers, making him a possibly key differential during a crucial gameweek.
Vardy netted three against Southampton last season, Sky Bet price him repeating that trick at 22/1.
The Portuguese has been an immense presence for City this season, influential at the back as City kept a clean sheet away to Manchester United last week in the Carabao Cup and again against Brighton on Wednesday.
Having picked up 24 points from his last four, the possibility of two more clean sheets with City finding some harmony in defence makes him a compelling option.
With Sebastien Haller leaving east London for Ajax, Michail Antonio, for now at least, is West Ham’s sole option up front. Back-to-back home fixtures against Burnley and West Brom could provide the opportunities to add to his tally for the season.
The former Nottingham Forest man is currently priced at 11/1 with Sky Bet to score a brace against the Clarets on Saturday.
Sky Bet have Bamford at 6-1 to score a brace against Brighton this weekend. At £6.6m, he still just about drifts into ‘bargain’ territory and having been left out of the squad that crashed out of the FA Cup against Crawley at the weekend, has been handed a decent rest before the visit of Brighton.
Only West Brom and Leeds themselves have conceded more than the Seagulls this term. After back-to-back 3-0 defeats, the Whites will be determined to make a statement.
