Premier League stats and records you might see in Gameweek 21

We’ve barely had time to digest the weekend’s wave of Premier League football before we tuck into a mid-week treat of matches with all 20 clubs in action across Tuesday to Thursday.

Arsenal’s clash at home to Liverpool is the headline fixture of gameweek 21, but there are plenty of other talking points and potential stats to keep an eye on as the action unfolds.

Double digits loom for West Ham

  • West Ham could fail to win in 10 Premier League games for the first time since 2006-07.

The Premier League action resumes on Tuesday night at the London Stadium, featuring two sides desperate for points.

West Ham enter the fixture winless in nine games, coming off a humiliating 3-0 defeat to previously winless Wolves. Nottingham Forest are also struggling, having lost their last four matches.

A loss for the Hammers would see them go 10 Premier League games without a victory for the first time since 2006-07, when they endured an 11-game winless streak. Meanwhile, a defeat for Forest would mark Sean Dyche’s first five-game losing streak within a single Premier League campaign.

Spurs’ midweek misery

  • Tottenham’s shocking midweek Premier League run could stretch to 11 games without a win.

Bournemouth are currently winless in their last 11 Premier League games, which is their longest run without a win within a single top-flight campaign. Despite the tough run, the Cherries have shown signs of life recently, drawing 2-2 away to Chelsea and narrowly losing 3-2 to leaders Arsenal.

Earlier in the season, Bournemouth secured a 1-0 victory away at Tottenham. They head into Wednesday games aiming to end their winless streak while simultaneously completing a first-ever league double over Spurs, who themselves have struggled in midweek fixtures, having gone winless in their last 10 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Premier League games. Their last mid-week win dates back two years ago.

Sunderland stalemate specialists

  • Sunderland could become the first club to draw five straight Premier League games since Fulham in 2020-21.

No side has accrued more draws (9) this term than Sunderland who have shared the points in each of their last four games.

If Wednesday’s game away to Brentford ends level, then Sunderland will become the first side to draw five in a row in the competition since Fulham back in December 2020 – January 2021.

Villa eye best start since 19th century

  • Aston Villa could accumulate their most points after 21 games in a Premier League season.

Aston Villa have enjoyed a superb start to the season, amassing 42 points from their first 20 Premier League games. A victory away to an out-of-form Crystal Palace would fire the club to 45 points from 21 games, which would represent their best-ever points tally at this stage of a Premier League season.

When adjusting the points for a standard three points per win, this would mark Villa’s second-best start to a top-flight campaign, behind the 48 points they had after 21 games in 1898-99.

Notably, on both occasions where Villa held 45 points at this stage, the club went on to win the top-flight title (also in 1895-96).

Grealish targets his City assist tally

  • Jack Grealish needs only one more assist to match his best-ever assist tally for Man City (in a single Premier League season).

Jack Grealish added two more assists to his collection last time out against Brentford to take his tally to six for the season.

If he sets up a goal against rock-bottom Wolves on Wednesday, he will already have levelled his best-ever season assists tally at Manchester City (7 in 2022-23).

His best season for league assists remains 2020-21 when he hit double figures (12) for Aston Villa.

Enzo on a roll

  • Enzo Fernandez could score in three successive Premier League games for the first time.

Enzo Fernandez struck late to rescue a point for Chelsea away at Manchester City, netting his sixth goal of the Premier League season. Among central midfielders, only Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraaes (7) has scored more this campaign.

Should Fernandez find the back of the net against Fulham, it would mark the first time he has scored in three consecutive Premier League appearances.

Haaland’s cold spell

  • Erling Haaland could fail to score in four successive top-flight starts for the first time in his career.

Erling Haaland is enduring an unusual quiet spell in front of goal, having failed to score in each of his last three Premier League games against Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Chelsea.

Should the Manchester City striker start against Brighton and again fail to find the back of the net again, it would mark the first time in his career that he has gone four consecutive top-flight starts without a goal.

United’s Turf Moor test

  • Manchester United could go 16 successive Premier League away games without keeping a clean sheet.

Manchester United head into Wednesday’s clash at Burnley with Darren Fletcher at the wheel following Monday’s sacking of Ruben Amorim.

United’s defensive problems on the road continue to mount. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in 15 consecutive away league games, conceding 28 goals in that period. Another goal conceded at Turf Moor would mark their worst away clean-sheet drought since the 1977-78 season (17 games).

Leeds’ resilience put to the test

  • Leeds could go unbeaten in four successive Premier League away games for the first time since 2001.

Leeds United’s impressive seven-game unbeaten run faces a stern examination away at Newcastle, who appear to have found momentum with back-to-back victories.

The Whites are also showing resilience on the road, remaining unbeaten in their last three away Premier League matches after picking up points at Liverpool, Sunderland and Brentford. Thet’ve not gone four away Premier League games without defeat since December 2001, when David O’Leary was in charge.

Meanwhile, Leeds haven’t drawn four in a row on the road since 1998.

Saka’s red-hot home streak

  • Bukayo Saka could become the first Arsenal player to score in four successive league home games against Liverpool.

The match of the gameweek pits leaders Arsenal against defending champions Liverpool in a crunch clash at the Emirates.

Arsenal are enjoying a five game winning streak in the league and have picked up 28 points from a possible 30 on home soil this season.

Star man Bukayo Saka has six goal involvements in his last eight league games and has scored four goals in his last three home league games against Liverpool.

Another goal on Thursday would see Saka make history by becoming the first Arsenal player ever to score in four consecutive home league matches against the Reds.
