Premier League stats and records you might have missed from Gameweek 24

Impressive second-half comebacks dominated the headlines in the Premier League over a weekend that saw Arsenal reassert their authority in the title race.

Read on for the best of the stats from gameweek 24.

The Jesus effect

  • Gabriel Jesus has never lost a Premier League game in which he’s scored (64 games).

Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the table after cruising to a dominant 4-0 victory away at Leeds.

Gabriel Jesus capped the win in style, coming off the bench to score Arsenal’s fourth and extend an extraordinary Premier League record.

The Brazilian has now gone 64 Premier League matches without defeat in games he has scored in – winning 59 of them – which is the longest such unbeaten run in the competition’s history.

Meanwhile, Declan Rice – aged 27 years and 17 days – became the fifth youngest player to reach 300 Premier League appearances after Wayne Rooney, James Milner, Gareth Barry, and Raheem Sterling.

Kroupi’s on fire

  • Among teenagers in Europe’s top five leagues this season, only Lamine Yamal boasts more league goals than Junior Kroupi.

Bournemouth came out 2-0 winners at Wolves as they claimed back-to-back wins for the first time since September.

Junior Kroupi gave the visitors the lead in fine fashion, courtesy of a powerful first-half goal past the helpless Jose Sa.

Kroupi now has eight league goals to his name this season, the most of any teenager in Europe’s big-5 leagues behind only Lamine Yamal (9).

Seagulls stalling

  • Only Burnley (5) and Wolves (6) have collected fewer Premier League points than Brighton (9) since the start of December.

Everton scored a 97th minute equaliser to burst Brighton’s hopes of claiming only their second league win since November.

Brighton’s failure to convert draws into wins has been a common theme over the last few months. Since the start of December, only bottom two sides Burnley (5) and Wolves (6) have registered fewer Premier League points than Brighton (9), who have just one win in 11 league games in this time (D5 L5).

Chelsea’s unique comeback

  • Chelsea won a Premier League match from two goals down at half-time for the first time in their history.

Capital rivals Chelsea and West Ham played out a game of two halves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night as the Blues mounted a stunning comeback after the break to beat the shellshocked Hammers 3-2.

Goals from substitutes Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella hauled Chelsea level before Enzo Fernandez struck a dramatic late winner to complete the turnaround.

It was the first time Chelsea had won a Premier League match after trailing by two goals at half-time – having gone 56 games without a win when losing by 2+ at the break – and extended their winning league run under new boss Liam Rosenior, who became just the fourth English manager to win his first three Premier League games.

Salah makes more history

  • Mo Salah became the first player in Premier League history to accumulate double figures for both goals and assists against a single opponent.

Liverpool hit back in emphatic fashion after falling behind to dismantle Newcastle 4–1 at Anfield.

Hugo Ekitike struck twice and Florian Wirtz added a goal and an assist as the hosts ran riot, but it was Mo Salah’s assist for Wirtz that stood out for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, the assist meant Salah became the first player in Premier League history to register double figures for both goals and assists against a single opponent, with an extraordinary return of 19 goals and 10 assists against Newcastle.

Secondly, the assist also meant that Salah now has the most direct goal involvements at a single stadium – Anfield (152) – in Premier League history.

Bruno’s brace

  • Bruno Fernandes equalled his personal best for assists in a Premier League season (12).

Bruno Fernandes was, as usual, the driving force behind Manchester United’s last-gasp 3-2 home win at home to Fulham, which extended Michael Carrick’s perfect start to three wins on the spin. Carrick has now already equalled Ruben Amorim’s longest ever winning streak with the Red Devils.

Fernandes teed up Casemiro for the opener before providing the decisive assist for Benjamin Sesko’s stoppage-time winner.

Those two assists fired Fernandes to 12 for the Premier League season – five more than any other player – equalling his personal best. With 14 games still to play, the Portuguese playmaker will now have his sights set on the single-season assist record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne (20).

Brentford end Villa Park hoodoo

  • Brentford beat Aston Villa at Villa Park for the first time ever.

Brentford completed the double over Aston Villa with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Villa Park, despite playing the entire second-half with 10 men. The win marked Brentford’s first ever triumph at Villa Park, ending a 10 game winless streak at the ground.

For Aston Villa, it was their third 1-0 defeat of the season – the joint-most in the league – and a big dent to their title hopes.

Palace fail to capitalise

  • Crystal Palace have still never beaten Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (G12 W0 D8 L4).

It was always going to be difficult for Crystal Palace to come away from the City Ground with three points, given their winless run coupled with their poor record against Nottingham Forest.

But even with a man advantage for the entire second half, the Eagles couldn’t capitalise, settling for a 1-1 draw – without mustering a single shot on target after the break – which extended their frustrating winless run in this Premier League fixture to 12 games.

Palace’s struggles go beyond this matchup, as they have now gone 12 games across all competitions without a win, stretching back to early December.

Tottenham end Man City’s streak

  • Manchester City had previously won 115 games in a row after holding a 2+ goal lead at half-time, a streak snapped by Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

There was another game of two halves over the weekend, also in the capital, as Tottenham clawed their way back from two goals down at the break to claim a point at home to Manchester City.

Tottenham looked dead and buried at the interval with Man City holding a very comfortable 2-0 lead, however, the Citizens were completely off it in the second-half, conceding two goals to throw away more points in the title race.

It was the first time since 2018 that the Citizens failed to win a match they led by 2+ goals, ending a run of 115 such matches in all competitions.

Contrasting fortunes in the North East

Sunderland extended their unbeaten home record to 12 matches after they dispatched Burnley 3-0 on Monday night, thanks to goals from Axel Tuanzebe (own goal), Habib Diarra, and Chemsdine Talbi.

Only the leading duo of Arsenal and Man City (29) have accumulated more points on home soil than the Black Cats (26), who remain the only top-flight side yet to be beaten on their own patch.

Sunderland were so dominant they didn’t even concede a shot on target, while struggling Burnley are now without a win in a hefty 15 matches, which is their longest winless streak ever in the Premier League.
