Our Premier League table tracker does something no pundit dares to. It plays the entire 2026/27 season out in full, then shows every twist on one animated chart.
In this simulated run, Sunderland led on the opening weekend, Fulham topped the table in autumn and Coventry City finished bottom. Arsenal sat 12th after Gameweek 1 but still ended up champions. This is the story of one wild simulated season, and what it tells us about the real title race.
How the table tracker works
We simulate the Premier League season 30,000 times. Each club’s strength is calibrated to its current Sky Bet outright odds, so the pre-season favourites still start as favourites. The tracker then animates the most central run, the season that finishes closest to the average across every simulation. Each line follows one club’s league position after each gameweek. Green shading marks the top four, gold marks fifth and red marks the bottom three.
It is a model, not a forecast. Think of it as one plausible version of 2026/27, drawn from thousands. Tap any club to isolate its line and follow its run. A chaotic autumn with seven different leaders
Early tables lie, and this simulated season proves it in style. Seven different clubs topped the table at some stage. Sunderland sat top after Gameweek 1, fresh from a strong opening weekend. Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester City and Fulham all led before winter arrived. Fulham enjoyed the longest early stay, holding first place from Gameweek 6 to Gameweek 9. Man City led in four separate spells across the campaign, yet never managed to pull clear when it counted.
The opening top five bore no relation to the finish. Crystal Palace sat second after one round. Brentford were fourth. Coventry City, one of the promoted sides, soared as high as fifth. Everton, by contrast, sat 19th early on before climbing all the way to eighth. Newcastle United made a similar journey from 18th to 12th. Judge this season on its first month and you would have called almost everything wrong.
Chelsea lead the winter before Arsenal surge
The real contenders emerged after Christmas. Liverpool led for three gameweeks in the new year. Chelsea then seized control and held top spot from Gameweek 22 to Gameweek 26. Arsenal, 12th after the opening round, kept climbing. They grabbed first place for good in Gameweek 30 and never let go.
Arsenal won the title in this run, just a point clear of Chelsea, who climbed 12 places across the season. Liverpool came third and Man City fourth, despite leading on and off through the autumn. Manchester United took fifth. Tottenham Hotspur completed the top six, a fine recovery from 16th after Gameweek 1. Aston Villa climbed from 13th to seventh to lead the chasing pack. Behind them, Brentford faded from fourth to ninth, while AFC Bournemouth quietly rose from 17th to 10th.
The big fallers: Coventry, Sunderland and Crystal Palace
For every riser, someone slid the other way. Coventry told the cruellest tale. They started fifth and finished 20th, the sharpest fall of the season. Sunderland led after one game, then drifted to 13th. Palace dropped from second to 15th. Hull City hit seventh at their peak before sinking to 19th. Leeds United slipped from seventh to 16th.
In this simulated season, Ipswich Town, Hull and Coventry filled the three relegation places. All three promoted clubs went down in this particular run. Each had spent time in mid-table or higher before fading. That is the danger of a long campaign. A bright start guarantees nothing, and 38 gameweeks punish any club that cannot sustain it. The tracker lays that slow collapse bare, one gameweek at a time.
What it really tells us
The tracker is a bit of fun, but it carries a serious lesson about variance. 11 different clubs touched the top four at some point in this run. Even Arsenal and Chelsea, the eventual top two, dipped into the bottom three during the noisy opening weeks. That shows how little an early Premier League table really means.
One point matters most. This is a single run from 30,000. Nudge a few results and Chelsea lift the trophy, or Coventry stay up. We are not predicting that Arsenal will win or that Coventry will go down. We are showing how wildly one season can swing before it settles.
