Who’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League right now?
The 2023-24 Golden Glove winner was David Raya. This season, the Arsenal goalkeeper trails Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels, who has the most Premier League clean sheets in 2024-25 (13).
Many would argue clean sheets aren’t the best way to measure the quality of a goalkeeper, though. Rather, they are more a reflection of the overall defensive ability of their team. That’s why our Squawka Score rating system factors in other statistical categories, such as saves inside the box and ‘goals prevented’ (post-shot xG conceded — which measures chance and quality of chances against a team — minus the actual number of goals conceded).
With the 2024-25 season hitting the final run-in, Sels has usurped Mads Hermansen as the best-performing Premier League goalkeeper by Squawka Score, the latter dropping down to fourth in the rankings.
- Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest) – 69%
- Jordan Pickford (Everton) – 68%
- Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton) – 65%
- Mads Hermansen (Leicester City) – 65%
- Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace) – 65%
Read on for more detail on these goalkeeper rankings.
NB: Only players with at least half of the possible (1,305) minutes across the season under their belts are considered.
5. Dean Henderson
- Team: Crystal Palace
- Squawka Score: 65%
Crystal Palace have one of the best defences in the Premier League this season, conceding just 45 goals. Dean Henderson has been a reliable man in between the sticks, preventing 4.35 goals in total across the campaign — the most of any goalkeeper in the Premier League. He hasn’t been too busy, averaging 2.85 saves per 90 with a save percentage of 69.6%, but that doesn’t take away from his display.
4. Mads Hermansen
- Team: Leicester City
- Squawka Score: 65%
Leicester’s relegation was confirmed on the weekend, but Mads Hermansen is one Foxes player who can hold his head high. The Danish goalkeeper has averaged 3.96 saves per 90 in the Premier League this season, with 2.86 of those coming from shots inside the box — the third-most of any goalkeeper. He has also made just two errors leading to opponent shots all season.
3. Aaron Ramsdale
- Team: Southampton
- Squawka Score: 65%
Despite Southampton almost rivalling Derby for one of the worst Premier League points finishes ever, Aaron Ramsdale has been somewhat of a silver lining – althought the Saints may find it hard to hold onto him in the summer. The Englishman has made the second-most saves in the league this season (108) and the third-most final third passes completed of any other keeper (54). Ramsdale is also one of just two goalkeepers to save more than one penalty in the Premier League this season, keeping out two from seven penalties faced.
2. Jordan Pickford
- Team: Everton
- Squawka Score: 68%
Jordan Pickford seems to get a lot of stick, but he remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League right now. The Englishman is the best with the ball at his feet, averaging 9.7 long passes completed (further than 35 yards) – the second-most in the league – and 3.58 passes into the final third completed (the most in the league). Alongside Rasmdale, Pickford is the other goalkeeper to save more than one penalty in the Premier League this season.
1. Matz Sels
- Team: Nottingham Forest
- Squawka Score: 69%
Nottingham Forest are right in the fight for Champions League football and Matz Sels has certainly played his role in their meteoric rise this season. The Belgian goalkeeper has kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season with 13 in total. He’s conceded 1.18 goals per 90, a decent record among goalkeepers. As well as this, he has made the second-most saves in the league (108) and has kept it tidy at the back, as he is yet to make an error leading to a shot. And that’s what has him clear at the top, as the top-scoring goalkeeper in the Premier League right now.

How do Squawka’s ratings work?
We used Twenty3 Sport’s Discovery Tool to run a customised search. The Discovery Tool rates a player’s per 90 output across selected metrics to produce a percentage score, referred to above as the Squawka Score.
Each player’s stats are compared to the average output of goalkeepers across the past three seasons of big-five European league football. The higher the score, the closer they rank to the 95th percentile and above for each metric.
