West Ham vs Everton: Predictions
West Ham have ditched their Jekyll-and-Hyde tag this season and proven a very consistent side under David Moyes, so much so that the east Londoners are currently still fighting tooth and nail to sneak into the Premier League top four, while Everton themselves still harbour aspirations of making European football.
The Hammers have risen to meteoric prominence in 2020/21 after limping over the line last term, and have just given themselves an outside chance of clinching Champions League football after getting back to winning ways against Burnley on Monday night, with just three points the difference between fifth and fourth.
The capital club have arguably the easiest run-in of those vying for fourth, but this weekend represents a very ominous tie for Moyes, as he goes toe-to-toe with his former club, who could move level on points with West Ham should they win on Sunday and produce a similar result in their game in hand.
So, it’s still very much all to play for, and Everton have already bruised the Hammers this season, winning 4-1 at Goodison Park in the League Cup, though Moyes returned the favour in the league, winning 1-0 at the same venue, but West Ham have not completed a double over the Merseyside club since 1972/73.
West Ham vs Everton: Match Stats
Following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s League Cup hat-trick against West Ham back in autumn, the Euro 2020 aspirant will be champing at the bit to replicate those exploits and blunt the Hammers’ European hopes. He has notched a league-high seven headed goals this term, with the last player to net more in a single campaign being Roque Santa Cruz in 2007/08 (eight), while Duncan Ferguson remains the only Everton player to hit more in 1997/98 (nine).
West Ham meanwhile recently welcomed Michail Antonio back from injury, and the convalescing centre-forward marked his comeback with a match-winning brace against Burnley earlier this week. However, he fluffed his lines on several occasions to miss out on a hat-trick, and he will be determined to right those wrongs on Sunday to keep the dream alive for West Ham.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, Everton boast a formidable record against them, winning more Premier League games overall (26) and more Premier League away games (11) against the club than they have against any other side in the competition.

The match at Goodison Park to ring in the New Year was perhaps the contest that got West Ham fans genuinely excited about this season. A clean sheet and a win away to Everton is a rare commodity for the Hammers, but a Tomas Soucek winner at the death sealed the deal, with the Czech producing his famous ‘potato salad’ interview in the immediate aftermath, endearing himself to, not just those of a claret and blue persuasion, but football fans up and down the country.
