Man United were impressive last weekend seeing off Tottenham 3-0 while in midweek they fought back from behind to draw 2-2 with Atalanta. It has been a mixed start to the campaign for the Red Devils who sit fifth with 17 points from their ten games. At Old Trafford, they are struggling taking just one point from their last three in front of their own fans including that 5-0 hammering by Liverpool.
Man City had a poor day at the office last weekend going down 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace but bounce back Wednesday night with a 4-1 defeat of Club Brugge. The start made by Chelsea and Liverpool means City have to win this one as they already five points behind the London outfit. Away from the Etihad, City have won three, drawn one and lost one which includes visits to Anfield, White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge already.
Man Utd vs Man City: Match Stats
It is difficult to know what Man United side will show up at the moment, is it the team who outclassed Spurs, the team who was embarassingly bad against Liverpool or the team who played in spells against Atalanta and disappeared in other moments. One thing is constant though and that is that defence is exposed against elite teams and the absence of Raphael Varane will only extend this problem. City have a wealth of attacking riches and grabbed four at Brighton in their last road game so backing them to go over 1.5 goals looks a good bet.
Although United kept a clean sheet against Tottenham they conceded a couple of big chances at set-pieces and the absence of Varane will only extend this problem. John Stones will come in for the suspended Laporte and he showed last season he knows where the goal is and looks over-priced to net here.
