How both teams go into Newcastle vs Brentford
The EFL Cup is an all-Premier League affair at the quarter-final stage. But both Newcastle and Brentford will be optimistic about their chances of making the final at Wembley. Newcastle have already knocked out two Premier League sides en route to the quarter-finals this season. For Brentford, this will be a first game against Premier League opposition in the EFL Cup this season. They’ll be hoping for a win to secure just a second EFL Cup semi-final appearance in the club’s history. The Bees started this year’s competition with a narrow 1-0 win over League Two side Colchester United. They then beat Leyton Orient of League One 3-1, before seeing off Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on penalties.
