Man City vs Arsenal prediction and stats: An early title clash

Premier League fans will be treated to an early clash between last season’s top two when Manchester City host Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides are unbeaten after four games, with City perfect on 12 points, while Arsenal have 10. Both also head into the match off the back of goalless draws against Italian opposition in the Champions League, with Man City held at home by Inter and Arsenal battling for a point away at Atalanta.

Three Man City vs Arsenal predictions

Man City 2-1 Arsenal (15/2 with Betfred)

Man City have scored at least two goals in seven of their past nine Premier League home games against Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka to score or assist (15/8 with Sky Bet)

Bukayo Saka has been directly involved in five of Arsenal’s six Premier League goals so far this season, scoring once and providing four assists. He’s assisted in all four games so far and can join Thierry Henry as the only other player in Premier League history to provide an assist in each of his team’s first five games of a season with another here.

Man City to win (17/20 with Midnite)

Man City are unbeaten in their past 10 home games against Arsenal across all competitions, winning eight of those. Arsenal haven’t beaten Man City at the Etihad since Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud scored in a 2-0 win in January 2015.

How both teams go into Man City vs Arsenal

It’s only September, so this game cannot possibly have any real impact on the Premier League title race, but it will be a good opportunity for both sides to stake their claim. Man City are once again the defending champions having just had too much for Arsenal, and the chasing pack, last season.

After four games there has been no stopping Man City yet. Pep Guardiola’s side opened with a 2-0 win away at Chelsea before beating Ipswich 4-1 at home. Before the international break, Man City saw off another London team, this time beating West Ham, before returning with a 2-1 win over Brentford.

Arsenal have proven that they are here to stay under Mikel Arteta, as they start their third title challenge. But they now have to show they have what it takes to usurp Man City. While it feels like every title is for Man City to lose, Arsenal will be looking to capitalise on any slip-up across the campaign.

The Gunners went perfect in their opening two matches, beating Wolves and Aston Villa 2-0. Their 100% run came to an end before the international break, following a 1-1 draw with Brighton who were also perfect at the time, but they bounced back to beat arch-rivals Tottenham 1-0 away after the break.

Man City host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium at 4:30pm (UK time) on Sunday, 22nd September.

Man City team news

Phil Foden and Savinho both played in the Champions League during the week and should be ready to go the distance in this match. However, Kevin De Bruyne is now a major doubt after coming off injured against Inter. Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are long-term absentees.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal will welcome Declan Rice back into the team after suspension. Bukayo Saka came off with cramp against Spurs but managed 73 minutes against Atalanta and will be fine here, though it is still too soon for Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mikel Merino.

Man City vs Arsenal head-to-head

After a run of seven successive victories across all competitions, Man City are now three without victory against Arsenal. However, they are still unbeaten at home against the Gunners since January 2015.
